During the 2011 Egyptian revolution, the government unplugged the Internet. Protesters were left without Internet, and thereby the ability to communicate even locally, instantly.

 

I would like to point out that these projects are viewed as somewhat like games to their creators. They are tested at music festivals. Most are crowd sourced. We have an amazing capacity to do good for each other, simply for the excitement and fulfillment a good challenge provides.
