Europeiska kommissionens sida om litteracitet kan vara bra att hålla koll på. Men vad är litteracitet? Så här beskriver de själva bbegeppet:
What is literacy?
There are many definitions of literacy used by researchers and academics. For the purposes of this website, literacy means the ability to read and write at a level that enables a person to develop and function effectively in their day-to-day activities.
The website focuses on three levels of literacy:
Baseline literacy: the ability to read and write at a level that enables self-confidence and motivation for further development.
Functional literacy: the ability to read and write at a level that enables someone to develop and function in society, at home, in school and at work.
Multiple literacy: the ability to use reading and writing skills in order to produce, understand, interpret and critically evaluate texts received through a variety of media and in many forms (print, digital, audiovisual)
A person with low levels of literacy may find it hard to perform basic daily activities, such as writing a shopping list, understanding guidelines for the use of medication, using a cash point, writing a cheque, understanding their child’s school report or reading a book.
