We've been keeping tabs on the plasmonics scene for a while and we just got wind of an interesting new development from the Netherlands in partnership with Caltech. If the Netherlands connection doesn't exactly ring your bells, recall that Caltech is the institutional home of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, which is heavily invested in the
The folks over at Spacing Vancouver have compiled this multi-layered diagram which depicts the operating hours of every business within 200m from the Broadway-City Hall station on Cambie Street. The purpose of this time diagram is to show how "this continuous flow orchestrates the city's metabolism." Check out the complete story from Spacing Vancouver over here.

The Land Art Generator Initiative (LAGI) is a landmark initiative that has brought together artists, architects, scientists, landscape architects, and engineers in a first of its kind collaboration. The goal of the Land Art Generator Initiative is to design and construct a series of public art installations that uniquely combine aesthetics with clean energy generation. The works will serve to inspire and educate while they provide renewable power to thousands of homes around the world. The Land Art Generator Initiative was founded by Elizabeth Monoian & Robert Ferry.

A simple, cheap device turns sunlight into hydrogen fuel.
If solar power is to become a primary source of electricity around the world, we’ll need cheap ways to store energy from the sun when it isn’t shining. A paper published in the journal Science this week reports a major step toward such a system. Researchers have developed a device that cheaply and efficiently converts the energy in sunlight into hydrogen, which can be used as a fuel and is easily stored.
At a private shindig in little town called New York City last week, SolarCity CEO Lyndon Rive and Chairman Elon Musk (Lyndon’s cousin and also the CEO, Chief Product Architect, and Chairman of Tesla Motors) made a few casual but potentially world-changing announcements, as is practically a habit with Elon.
Watch the REBRICK film, introducing our way to turning waste into a resource.
Wa Gon's insight:
Reuse of bricks is our solution to turning waste into a resource. Everytime you reuse a brick, you save the environment 500 grams of CO2. That equals 1 tonne of CO2 per 2000 bricks. Through the EU project REBRICK, we are about to expand our technololy to the European market.
