A Systems Thinking Approach to “Collective Impact”; the Necessary Ingredients for a Paradigm Shift in Engaging Public Health Prevention and Corporate Wellness Programs

A Systems Thinking Approach to “Collective Impact”; the Necessary Ingredients for a Paradigm Shift in Engaging Public Health Prevention and Corporate Wellness Programs | Sustainable Intelligence | Scoop.it

"Collective impact is the implementation side of the systems thinking approach. Whereas the systems thinking looks at the technical components of the system, collective impact is where all the partners involved with the system get together and decide to put their individual agendas aside in order to address the system’s shortcomings."

systems thinking | what's a girl ghana do? | Sustainable Intelligence | Scoop.it

"What I’ve come to learn is how easy it is to be wrong in doing systems analysis, no matter how conscientious we are. Time and time again, I make mistakes in trying to map out the system; I make mistakes trying to draw out the: interactions and players; motives, influences and push/pull factors; cultural influences; and, predicted outcomes, disturbances, or resilience. In Ghana, my Canadian intuition for how systems and processes work is next to useless. I tend to rely heavily on this intuition and in Ghana, it has been wrong too many times to count."

Cross-Channel, Systems Thinking, and the Intertwingularity of It All | experience matters

Cross-Channel, Systems Thinking, and the Intertwingularity of It All | experience matters | Sustainable Intelligence | Scoop.it

"What do REI, NPR, the Boston Globe, and Red Box have in common? These are outstanding examples of companies who understand and embrace the concept of “intertwingularity.” The current buzzword of the UX world – and this year’s IA Summit in New Orleans – intertwingularity is the defining condition of the new digital experience. It refers to an ecosystem where information flows along with the user – entwined with the environment and carried by channels -until it finds its shape through the devices that present it. This intertwingled ecosystem requires us to take a closer look at the types of thinking and skills we’ll need going forward."

systems thinking « Value Chain Generation

systems thinking « Value Chain Generation | Sustainable Intelligence | Scoop.it

"In the series of scheduled Leancamp events, I attended an excellent session by @tor on the idea generation process. Tor’s discussion was on using discovery and ideation in the startup development process. His open-ended question was whether it would be better to use many ideas to come to a notion of killer game changing ideas, or whether singular ideas would work better, focusing efforts on making one, or a few things work.

Though there was of course no real answer to this question, the session did succeed in its’ outset to prompt my thinking on sector specific acceleration. I serendipitously linked back to a story told to me by my former Zameen Organic co-founder, Gijs, in India about the problem he had with snakes. Through this link I was able to better frame the advantages, which sector specific accelerators could bring to shaping and selecting ideas for customer problem solving."

Of Systems Thinking and User-Centered Design |

"The elusiveness of the dynamic between parts and whole has to do with the difficulty of envisioning different elements of the system at similar degrees of fidelity or detail. The system as a whole can only be conceptualized in terms of its parts, and to have a really distinct and granular understanding of a future system you need to be able to envision the components in even richer detail."

Learning in a Changing World and Changing in a Learning World: Reflexively Fumbling towards Sustainability

"... the nature of sustainability challenges seems to be such that a routine problem-solving approach falls short. Transitions towards a more sustainable world require more than attempts to reduce the world around us into manageable and solvable problems but instead require a more systemic and reflexive way of thinking and acting with the realisation that our world is one of continuous change and ever-present uncertainty. This alternative kind of thinking suggests that we cannot think about sustainability in terms of problems that are out there to be solved or in terms of ‘inconvenient truths’ that need to be addressed, but we need to think in terms of challenges to be taken on in the full realisation that as soon as we appear to have met the challenge, things will have changed and the horizon will have shifted once again."
