The Golden Rule is a positive command to show love proactively and it is so effective because it challenges us to use empathy – moral imagination – to put ourselves in others’ shoes. It’s a simple but profoundly powerful way of thinking about our role in the world that compels us to act toward others as we would want them to act toward us.
