What was once a brick factory in Toronto is now the headquarters for the Evergreen Foundation and a thriving hub for nature, education, and culture. The green renovation project called Evergreen Brick Works was led by Diamond Schmitt Architects and resulted in new facilities for the organization and a rehabilitated brownfield in Toronto's Don Valley. They also constructed a new LEED Platinum-designed building called the Centre For Green Cities to house the admin, education and welcome center for the non-profit organization...

Two modern day Willy Wonkas are building the world's first bamboo chocolate factory.

The three-story, 23,500-square-foot structure will be the world’s largest commercial building made out of bamboo. From the outside, the factory resembles a giant Balinese handicraft — like an apartment-building-size basket or a giant crocheted toy barn. The facade and some interior walls are woven from bamboo strips, and the roof is made of dried alang-alang grass. Ripple said the walls had to be coated with food-grade sealant in order to meet building codes for a commercial food-processing plant...

German automaker Volkswagen's newest United States manufacturing facility has been certified by the U.S. Green Building Council's (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) as the first LEED Platinum automotive manufacturing plant in the world.

Located in Chattanooga, Tennessee, the $1 billion production plant commenced operations in May 2011. For the past eight months this plant has been assembling Volkswagen's 2012 Passat.

The plant, known as Volkswagen Chattanooga, received 52 out of a possible 69 points to earn USGBC's highest LEED certification. International engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) firm, SSOE Group worked as both the Project Team Administrator and Design Lead for the facility.
