Lance Armstrong’s LIVESTRONG foundation is already a name aligned with sustainability of the body, but its new headquarters in Austin, Texas, has also made headway in the world of sustainable design and building— and finance. The outfit leased corporate office space for 10 years already; it was, therefore, time to invest in its own fiscal future by making its own space. San Antonio, Texas-based Lake|Plato Architects and the Austin, Texas-based Bommarito Group helped achieve that vision by designing the project. Together they transformed a 1950’s warehouse in the urban revitalization district of East Austin into a high contemporary building used by staff, researchers, and patients.

The Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) is one of many organisations hosting events this week to celebrate World Green Building Week.

The property and construction industries from 89 nations representing more than 30,000 organisations unite this week for World Green Building Week.

World Green Building Week aims to highlight the role that buildings play in decreasing the global carbon footprint and saving money, while also creating jobs, reducing poverty and improving lives.

The results are in…when it comes to the business case for sustainability, green buildings “walk the talk.”

In a recently issued white paper, GSA outlined the results of a post-occupancy evaluation study of 22 “green” federal buildings from across the country; the findings: compared to national average commercial buildings–

they cost less to maintain, by 19 percent
they use less energy and water, by 25 percent
they emit fewer carbon dioxide emissions, by 36 percent and
they have more satisfied occupants, by 27 percent.
