Designed by Gensler, the expansion invoved construction of a new 160,000 square foot terminal, expanded security checkpoints and a sky bridge between the terminal and parking.

The design of the new terminal roots its inspiration to the natural beauty and resources of Maine. The terminal has extensively used timber, which is a rare element in airport architecture. The facility was built to embrace several sustainable elements, which consist of natural daylighting, FSC-certified glue laminated structural timbers, and low-maintenance, polished concrete floors.

A new report from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) contains all the numbers and rankings a green building advocate could want to know regarding Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) projects in the U.S. and beyond.

LEED in Motion: Places and Policies highlights projects around the globe and the impact the green building set of standards made in the 13 years since it was created. LEED’s expansion has been massive, as about 40 percent of the properties that are pursing registration and/or certification are located outside of the U.S.

There are nearly 60,000 LEED green building projects in the world, spanning 10.6 billion square feet. Canada, India, China, the United Arab Emirates and Brazil are the countries with the most LEED projects outside of the U.S.

In London, A Big Win For Green Building

In London, A Big Win For Green Building | Sustain Our Earth | Scoop.it

The Crystal, as its known, was developed by Siemens — that global powerhouse in renewable energy tech, among other things — for the center of London’s new Green Enterprise District.

Conceived of as an ‘intelligent all electric’ building, it will serve as a showcase for innovative tech- from solar arrays (which cover the roof of the building) to heat pumps tied to geothermal wells (buried beneath the building site).
