Carbon conundrum prompts some greens to think the unthinkable: nuclear

Most greens oppose nuclear due to safety, costs* Many experts say all technologies needed in climate fight.

Most environmental groups advocate scaling up renewable energy such as wind and solar power but do not support nuclear due to safety issues, cost, and the time it takes to build.

But some experts say their stance is too narrow, making it harder to agree an effective deal in 2015 to cut greenhouse gases and keep temperature rises within safe limits of 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 Fahrenheit).

"If you are thinking seriously about holding climate change to no more than 2 degrees you can't afford to rule out any of the low-carbon technologies," said Nicholas Stern, chair of the Grantham Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics.

"You need to be investing in all of them - including nuclear," he told Reuters.

Tesla Model S Safety & Tesla Mission Published In Must-Read Blog From CEO/Founder Elon Musk

Tesla Model S Safety & Tesla Mission Published In Must-Read Blog From CEO/Founder Elon Musk | Sustain Our Earth | Scoop.it

Below is the latest Tesla post written by Elon. It is full of important information regarding not only Tesla or electric vehicles, but also the media. The mainstream media, very frankly, does not live up to its purpose very well these days. (Hence the reason CleanTechnica and its sister sites were created in the first place.) I hope that this article will help more of the media to clean up its act — at least with regards to electric vehicles, and Tesla Motors in particular. To do your part, don’t just read this article — share it with your friends!

UN talks locked on 'loss and damage'

UN talks locked on 'loss and damage' | Sustain Our Earth | Scoop.it

UN climate negotiations are bogged down in a dispute over who will take legal responsibility for the loss and damage caused by climate change.

Rich countries say they will strongly resist this move.

Secretary general Ban Ki-moon opened the ministerial segment of the talks in Warsaw, Poland with a warning that the world was facing the wrath of a warming planet.

Mr Ban called on delegates to respond with wisdom, urgency and resolve.
