China hands 'death sentence' to 75% of solar cell makers- Nikkei Asian Review | Sustain Our Earth | Scoop.it

SHANGHAI -- The Chinese government is pushing for a drastic shakeout of the country's overcrowded solar cell industry, supporting only a quarter of players and practically telling the rest to get out of the business.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has announced a list of 134 producers of silicon materials, solar panels and other components of photovoltaic systems as meeting certain conditions, as measured by 2012 production, capacity utilization and technical standards.

Finally how long  can  China stretch?  It could be taken as an early sign of implementation of proposed measures in third plenum refom agenda.
I guess we've started getting answers now.
Government's withdrawal of support from such companies will definitley make Indian manufacturer more competitive.

2014 is the year for a strong, unified business voice on climate policy

2014 is the year for a strong, unified business voice on climate policy | Sustain Our Earth | Scoop.it
Increased acceptance of the carbon bubble was an exciting development of 2013, writes Paul Simpson. Action on carbon prices and fuel efficiency standards are key for 2014

Stephane Bilodeau's curator insight, December 31, 2013 11:02 AM

"

Many companies are expecting and planning for policy makers to create a price of carbon and are factoring it into investment decisions. Exxon is pricing carbon at $60 a tonne, BP and Shell are working at $40. This shows business is ready for the policy the ice caps so badly need.

Over the next 24 months the global business community must actively push national policy makers to legislate a carbon price, set fuel efficiency standards and create a new global deal in order to transform the economy. My hope, given I am an optimist, is that a stronger, more unified business voice will develop in 2014, making it the year that climate change rises back up the political agenda.

Excellent Video Responses To Absurd ExxonMobil Commercial

Excellent Video Responses To Absurd ExxonMobil Commercial | Sustain Our Earth | Scoop.it
Ah, ExxonMobil decided to go and play the energy density card in a recent commercial, comparing the energy density in a gallon of gas to electricity in a somewhat “clever” way. One thing left out of the equation, however, is that, “while gasoline does have a high energy density, internal combustion engines are only able to use 30% or less of that energy for automotive propulsion. Thus, burning gasoline to drive a vehicle is still very inefficient,” asone GM-Volt Forum member noted. But some even better responses might be as follows:
