Infographic: Are We on the Path to Peak Water?

Infographic: Are We on the Path to Peak Water? | Sustain Our Earth | Scoop.it

Many scientists and experts fear that humanity is reaching the point of peak water — the point at which freshwater is being consumed faster than it is being replenished or available. In the infographic above we take a look at the amount of water use around the world. Can we cut back before we reach the point of no return?

Kylie Schultz researched, wrote and produced this infographic as a participant in the Ensia Mentor Program. Her mentor for the project was Ensia director Todd Reubold. Infographic design and layout byAmber Billings.

Thomas Piketty Undermines the Hallowed Tenets of the Capitalist Catechism

Thomas Piketty Undermines the Hallowed Tenets of the Capitalist Catechism | Sustain Our Earth | Scoop.it

Published on Sunday, April 20, 2014 by The Nation

Not only does capitalist growth not reduce inequality; it increases it.

by Jeff Faux Thomas Piketty just tossed an intellectual hand grenade into the debate over the world’s struggling economy. Before the English translation of the French economist’s new book,Capital in the Twenty-first Century, hit bookstores, it was applauded, attacked and declared a must-read by pundits, left, right and center. For good reason: it challenges the fundamental assumption of American and European politics that economic growth will continue to deflect popular anger over the unequal distribution of income and wealth.

Economie circulaire : la révolution à venir de l'industrie automobile

Economie circulaire : la révolution à venir de l'industrie automobile | Sustain Our Earth | Scoop.it

Rémy Le Moigne, consultant supply chain, revient sur les opportunités qui s'ouvrent à l'industrie automobile pour s'inscrire dans l'économie circulaire : recyclage, réemploi voire… autopartage.

Stéphane NEREAU's curator insight, April 22, 2014 5:37 PM

Well-being is more than a side-show to neoliberal economics

Well-being is more than a side-show to neoliberal economics | Sustain Our Earth | Scoop.it

"A post-growth agenda is not necessarily about making sacrifices, but about superceding a broken economic model that is failing to make us better off.

At its best, the well-being agenda is not just a sideshow to neoliberal economics: it points towards a new economics, one which values equality, stability and community rather than simply growth for growth’s sake."

Adapting to Climate Change: Lessons from Mother Nature

Adapting to Climate Change: Lessons from Mother Nature | Sustain Our Earth | Scoop.it

"With the relevance of the word "prevention" long ago lost, the two salient words in climate change action are now "mitigation" and "adaptation."  The ideal, of course, is to design adaptations to the changing atmosphere that also mitigate the effects or lessen the causes.  It does not make sense, after all, to cool your building while warming the planet. This is where nature might have some suggestions."
