How Many Jobs Are Needed to Keep Up with Population Growth? | The Economic Populist

How Many Jobs Are Needed to Keep Up with Population Growth? | The Economic Populist | Sustain Our Earth | Scoop.it

The press quotes all sorts of figures for the number of monthly job gains needed to keep up with population growth. We see numbers like 80,000, 100,000, 125,000 and 175,000 thrown around like statistical snow as the number of jobs needed each month just to keep up. What's the right one? How many jobs are needed each month just to keep up with population growth?
The actual monthly amount can be calculated and the Atlanta Fed even did us a huge favor by publishing an interactive monthly jobs calculator so you can go check for yourself. This month shows we need 104,116 payroll jobs to maintain the same unemployment rate of 8.1% with all of the other same terrible conditions the state of employment is in.

Almost 50 per cent of global investors in a survey said government efforts to combat climate change will have little effect on corporate profits, while most say global warming is a danger to the planet.

Actions to limit pollution will have “not much impact” on profitability, according to 49 per cent of respondents in the Bloomberg Global Poll, while a third said profit may fall. Eight per cent of the investors, analysts and traders surveyed among Bloomberg’s global customers said such efforts would have a positive impact on corporate profitability in their nation.

Capitalism Without Failure: Woody Brock: Capitalism is Terrific, but Our Corrupted, Bastardized, Crony Capitalist System Stinks; It's Rigged (video) | Sustain Our Earth | Scoop.it

Woody Brock on the state of our capitalism: Under true capitalism, no agent has any bargaining power whatsoever. The notion of 4 investment bankers taking a private plane to Washington to make sure that leverage would be tripled in April 2004 in exchange for some nice payments, is outrageous and scandalous and they all should be in jail. Adam Smith wouldn't roll in his grave; he would gyrate.
