Spain Faces Flaring After Low Demand for LNG | Sustain Our Earth | Scoop.it

Spain's natural gas transmission system operator (TSO), Enagas, and its energy regulator, CNE, are working together to find ways to reduce the amount of boil-off gas flared in the country, they have told ICIS.

Boil-off, in which some LNG turns to vapour when it reaches its boiling point, is a symptom of failure to regasify the liquid quickly enough.

One cause is demand that is too low to allow send-out flows at high-enough levels - evidenced by recent TSO data.

Some Albertans have turned to a vocal U.S. environmental group for information on pipeline safety they say they can't get from their own government.

Four conservation and landowners organizations have asked an expert from the Washington-based Natural Resources Defense Council to talk to them about what Albertans should be concerned about regarding the province's aging pipeline network.

Enbridge Calls for Creation of Spill Fund

Natural Gas Line Blast Rocks Rural Louisiana Area

A natural gas transmission line exploded early Tuesday in a rural Louisiana community about 70 miles north of New Orleans, knocking out power and causing area residents to be evacuated, local authorities said.

A large mushroom cloud and fire erupted from the line following the explosion at around 5:00 a.m., said Lauren Ritchie, a spokesman for the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office.
