In this article, we are going to take a look at 10 of the top places that people cannot afford to miss if they decide to take a holiday in East Sussex.

Brighton Pier
When people think of seaside towns and attractions in the whole of the UK, Brighton Pier is likely to be one of the first locations to come to mind. Grade II listed, this Victorian pier is synonymous with the town of Brighton in general, and features a range of food and drink possibilities, as well as the ‘Palace of Fun’ and a number of rides and fairground attractions. Open 364 days a year – every day except Christmas Day – Brighton Pier offers a fantastic, entertaining and enchanting trip out, all year round.

Brighton Dome
The Brighton Dome is an arts venue in the heart of Brighton, containing the Concert Hall, the Corn Exchange and the Studio Theatre. It is a venue that plays host to a great variety of events, from all different genres of music, to serious plays, family theatre, dance and more. It is also available for private conferences, and hosts other events such as graduation ceremonies and the like. The Brighton Dome even hosted the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest, won by ABBA with their famous hit “Waterloo”.

Rye
A small town in East Sussex, Rye is a medieval and historical location that just about sums up the whole of the county perfectly. It boasts a great mixture of interesting historical areas and landmarks, an excellent shopping and tourist area, and some great pubs and restaurants. With the harbour and River Rother going right through the town’s centre, you can also see just what put the town on the map, as it will go down in history as one of the legendary Cinque Ports.

Rye Bay and Winchelsea
Rye Bay is an area that surrounds the town of Rye and the neighbouring Cinque Port town of Winchelsea. It is an area that boasts a rich variety of wildlife, and is full of items of historical interest. An interesting fact is that Winchelsea is also officially the smallest town in England.

Camber Sands
The dunes and sands of Camber Sands are one of the UK’s most desirable and beautiful sandy beaches, sure to have been seen in many a television advert or programme, with miles and miles of clean white sand stretching as far as the eye can see. With a range of wildlife also there to see, there is nowhere better, maybe in the whole of the UK, to spend a long summer’s day in the sun by the sea.

Hastings
Hastings is a renowned as a fishing harbour and location (it is home to the largest beach-launched fishing fleet in Europe), and features winding, old fashioned streets filled with a great range of shops and attractions. The Cliff Railways of the West Hill Lift and East Hill Lift are a stand out feature; the West Hill Lift is the UK’s steepest funicular railway. The East Hill Lift provides access to Hastings Country Park, overlooking the Old Town. Smugglers Adventure at St Clements Caves, set deep in the heart of the West Hill, is an attraction of acres of caverns, telling the exciting history of smuggling, with life-sized characters, interactive displays and more bringing the story and historical world to life.

County Cricket Ground, Hove
The County Cricket Ground, also now known, for commercial reasons, as the BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground, is a cricket venue in East Sussex that plays home to Sussex County Cricket Club. As one of the 16 main county cricket clubs in the UK, Sussex have a long and rich history and are currently playing in Division One of the LV= County Championship. In a lovely, old-English quaint touch, the County Ground is one of few left around the country that still has deckchairs for spectators to sit in – decorated in the blue and white colours of Sussex CCC.

Drusillas Park
Recognised as one of the UK’s very best small zoos, Drusillas is an award winning animal park where people can go along and see a whole range of different animals and creatures up close and personal. As well as having all of the animals for adults and children alike to go along and see, the park also features a massive range of attractions and amusements to keep youngsters entertained, from rides and trails to various characters in costumes, and much, much more. The park is not only child friendly, but also animal friendly, with the focus in everything they do being on involvement.

Pevensey Castle
A great family day out for those in East Sussex looking to visit a fantastic, historical location; Pevensey Castle encompasses both rich history and fun things to do, for adults and children alike. Pevensey Castle’s history stretches out over 16 centuries, graphically chronicling more about defences than any other fortress on Britain’s south coast, having begun in the 4th century as one of the Roman ‘Saxon Shore’ forts. Pevensey Castle was also the landing place of William the Conqueror’s army in 1066.

Eastbourne Promenade and Pier
Quite rightly, Eastbourne still boasts a reputation as one of the country’s most genteel and well presented seaside resorts.
