Social Content Curation: An Introductory Guide for Teachers and Students

Social Content Curation: An Introductory Guide for Teachers and Students | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it

Robin Good: "7 Things You Should Know About Social Content Curation" is a technology brief from Educause which aims to introduce, explain and illustrate the emerging social curation trend and why it is relevant to teaching and learning.

From the official abstract: "An emerging class of online tools, including Pinterest, Scoop.it, EduClipper, and others, allows users to quickly and easily gather, organize, and share collections of online resources, particularly visual content.

These applications make it easy to collect and post disparate bits of content, providing visual groupings at a glance that can reveal important patterns.

In academic settings, they can facilitate more visual thinking and discussion among students while providing a means to share collections of online content."

Informative. Good introductory text. 7/10

How to Turn Customers Into Facebook Fans

How to Turn Customers Into Facebook Fans | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it

We read a lot about how important social media is to promoting and marketing your business and brand. But what does that really mean? If you have thousands of Facebook fans does that mean you are successful? If you “tweet” something once a week is that enough?
In my book, A Slice of the Pie: How to Build a Big Little Business, I talk a lot about the importance of creating a culture of caring and collaboration in my restaurant, Nick’s Pizza & Pub, and in the community. But creating an online culture is just as important in this digital age, especially if your employees, customers or both are fluent in the social media world.......

Facebook Engagement: 14 Areas To Work On To Engage More FB Fan Page Readers Before Spending To Promote Your Posts

Facebook Engagement: 14 Areas To Work On To Engage More FB Fan Page Readers Before Spending To Promote Your Posts | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it

Robin Good: If you are wondering why engagement on your Facebook page is so hard to come, with few questions and comments sparking up your page, here is a number of good questions to ask yourself, before buying into Promoting your posts which is what Facebook is trying to get you to do.

“How do I get my Facebook fans to participate more on our page?”

Motivating fans to like, comment on, and share your posts not only strengthens your bond with existing fans but also helps get you in front of a new and bigger audience: their friends. If no one’s talking to you on Facebook, it’s hard to know if your social media marketing efforts are going anywhere — and it’s definitely not much fun.

The key reasons for our failure on this front is generally a lack of creativity and perseverance on our end to utilize the right ingredients that spark engagement for our readers. A few little changes can make all of the difference in the world.

Useful read and reminder of what to look at. 7/10

How to attract Facebook friends without sending a single friend request

How to attract Facebook friends without sending a single friend request | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it
If you're looking to build your friends list on Facebook, you know how awkward it can feel sending a friend request to someone you don't actually know.

If you’re looking to build your friends list on Facebook, you know how awkward it can feel sending a friend request to someone you don’t actually know. It can make you feel downright creepy. But the fact is that you can influence so many people through Facebook, and it’s still an excellent tool for building your brand, even for a personal Facebook account.

Keep in mind that gaining friends through a personal profile page is completely different than getting likes for your business page. While that is a useful campaign in and of itself, the goal of building your friends list is to have direct, personal contact with potential customers. This kind of campaign is for everybody, but especially for many small-business owners wanting to connect directly with local people, this can be a powerful technique.

So check out these tips for building friends on Facebook without actually having to send that awkward friend request. In fact, the goal of this process is to get them to send you that invite. It can be done and with less effort than you probably think.

Last week Cynthia Boris pointed me to some new social site research which found that while Facebook may come with the larger user base, Pinterest offers something even more valuable to marketers – users looking to buy. For small business owners, that’s the kind of social media finding we want to hear!

History Proves You Should Be Bullish on Facebook and Twitter

History Proves You Should Be Bullish on Facebook and Twitter | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it
if history is a guide, social media are at a stage where the real winners enabling scale and engagement are about to emerge in online advertising.

Much has been said about the social-media bubble popping, as public companies like Facebook, Zynga and Groupon have lost billions in investor value. Yet, social media continue to be among the most effective ways to reach and engage audiences. If history is a guide, social media are at a stage where the real winners enabling scale and engagement are about to emerge.

I've been around digital marketing technology since 1996, in some of the first companies in ad networks, e-commerce and web measurement. Every one of these spaces has followed a similar pattern as it transformed from simple ideas to fully formed billion-dollar ecosystems.

How to Be an Entrepreneur at Your Day Job

How to Be an Entrepreneur at Your Day Job | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it

3 tips to keep your motivation to start your own business alive while working to making ends meet.

As an entrepreneur, two things are probably true at some point in your career trajectory.

First, thinking like an entrepreneur is nearly impossible to turn off. If you're driven to be a self-starter and creator, odds are that you're constantly thinking and planning. Secondly, there will come a time -- barring any unforeseen angel investors or trust funds -- that you'll need to take a job before fully branching out on your own.

Although startup costs vary, launching your own vision does come as some price, which means many budding entrepreneurs find themselves working a day job -- planning for their dreams while feeling chained to a desk.

Rather than letting this temporary set-up squelch your ambition, use these three tips to fully leverage every step on your way to professional independence.

Champion Tweeters, Bloggers, and Network Leaders think differently. They spend their time on the social web and in their communities with a different behavior set, mindset and belief system. I call these Habitudes — as success is a combination of disciplined habit and battle hard attitude.

These “Social Media Habitudes” are what separate them from the rest of the pack.

Their decisions about tools, techniques and trends are shaped and molded by their Habitudes.

You have the ability to teach, guide, influence, activate, catalyze, transform, elevate, and make deeper connections every time you enter this space, but only if you are willing to make the following Habitudes a priority:

Display ad revenue, selling value by every thousand impressions.

What are the numbers? At last estimate, one such network reported revenue of  over $200 million a year.

It takes time to be social

It takes time to be social | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it

According to research by the Dachis Group, only 10 – 20% of employees in large organizations are actively engaged with their enterprise social collaboration platforms, as reported in this MIT Sloan article:

It may be that for many employees, even in these early adopter firms working to integrate internal social business applications, using these applications do not offer enough value or reason to shift behavior. Employees may be unaware of the potential of their social platform; or perhaps they have not been properly trained and educated. Or of course, it is also possible that while they are aware and have been trained, the value still isn’t there or isn’t high enough.

The SEO Path to Becoming a Great Funnel Owner | SEOmoz

The SEO Path to Becoming a Great Funnel Owner | SEOmoz | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it

Excerpted from article:

"If SEO consultants want to own more of the funnel, their title will need to change to support a more expansive role that includes multiple channels, rather than changing what the term "SEO" itself means.

The author of article is going to focus on two key areas of SEO:

1) Beyond keywords;
2) Content that works;

1. Beyond keywords

What good SEOs already do:

- Model search behavior across the funnel

Good SEO’s are already skilled in the art of modeling user search behavior across a search buying cycle. They look to identify what language prospects are using relevant to their business.

Good SEO’s will:

1. Use PPC data...

2. Measure head vs long tail...

3. Track top of funnel keywords...

4. Create keyword funnels...

5. Create content maps...

I want more of that funnel

What great funnel owners do:

- Model the whole customer

Persona modeling is nothing new, and smart marketers have been using them to help with brand marketing, website design, and UI for years.

Well constructed personas help develop many different tactics, including:

- Content that resonates
- Community that engages
- Display/retargeting ads that get clicked
- Emails that get opened.

2. Content that works

What good SEOs already do:

- Audit sites to make the engines (and user’s) happier

Good SEOs are a technical bunch and know how to ensure your site is ready to take on the search engines and win. Better yet, since good on-site optimizations follow good UI principles, the people visiting your site will be just as happy.

Good SEO’s will:

1. Make accessibility and indexability a must for your site...

2. Check all key areas of your site in order to...

3. Conduct a competitor analysis...

I want more of that funnel

What great funnel owners do:

- Audit content to build a strategy to amaze prospects

There are three key tasks to complete to help you create the right content strategy for your business:

1. Determine your "sweet spot"...

2. Conduct a TOFU content audit...

3. Conduct a MOFU content audit...

A well-planned content strategy helps open up many new doors for funnel owners, including:

- Thought leadership in your market
- Free visits, links, and shares
- Reduced bounce rate
- Increased engagement metrics
- Improved CRO results
- More money!

Each point is analyzed with more information and examples. Read full interesting article here:
