Do LinkedIn Endorsements Really Matter?

Do LinkedIn Endorsements Really Matter? | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it
Like them or not, they're worth paying attention to.

Via Barb Jemmott
donhornsby's insight:

(From the article) Think about endorsements as new and improved keywords. LinkedIn automatically defaults to ranking your skills by the number of endorsements you have, but to get more endorsements for the skills you want to emphasize, rearrange your list and move those skills higher. Also, if you’re getting endorsed for random things or for things you don’t want to be endorsed for, you can always hide either the entire skill or the particular endorser. Just set your profile to edit mode and you’ll see a little demo in the Skills and Endorsements section showing you how to edit it.

donhornsby's curator insight, June 12, 2014 9:38 AM

(From the article): Of course, LinkedIn is more than a platform for being found; it’s also a way to stay in touch with your network. One way to do this is to recommend people on LinkedIn—though that process does require a bit of thought and effort. Giving endorsements, on the other hand, is an easy, low-effort way of keeping in touch and regularly engaging with your contacts. Think of it as just sending little notes that say, “I remember you! You’re awesome!” Sounds simple, but it never hurts to generate some goodwill before you need it.

I agree with @donhornsby on this.  I know there are skeptics when it comes to LI endorsements but I think they are meaningful.

9 Vital Considerations Before Purchasing or Downloading a WordPress Template | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it

One of the most important steps to take when launching a website is deciding a theme or design that is perfectly suited for your style, goals, niche and target audience. For me, this decision making process can take up to 3 weeks before I finally chose a direction and idea that I am confident and comfortable with. Even then, there’s a chance that I may end up feeling for a change because of a new development and perspective. Nevertheless, it’s a crucial step in brainstorming and developing your site. 10 Inspiring WordPress Designs Worth Stealing

10 Inspiring WordPress Designs Worth Stealing | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it

For those who haven’t received the memo yet, WordPress is still the de facto blogging platform despite the heavy influx of other incredible resourceful blogging platforms

WordPress can be over-caffeinated at times, and at other times it can be too subtle for the liking. But there is always enough room for us to spread our limbs and make changes on the fly, and that’s what the webmasters of the world have attempted and succeeded in. Owing to consistent self-reinventions, WordPress has managed to endure despite the huge herd of other content management systems strewing the market.

The Internet realm has witnessed a steady stream of bloggers in past few years. To some, their blog is nothing more than an outlet for their thoughts & opinions. And then there are people who represent a business or a brand and their blog forms an indispensable part of their online marketing strategy. For some, any watered down blogging platform would be good enough, however, if being known as a serious publisher is on your agenda, you might as well want to migrate to WordPress without wasting any time.

Stefano Principato's curator insight, June 7, 2014 2:40 AM

5 Steps For Repurposing Content

  1. Write: make sure what you have written is original, concise and compelling; then spread the message by publishing it.
  2. Blog: this piece of compelling content should be featured on a blog post, which should act as your strategy’s core; every time you share this content, traffic should be directed to your company’s blog.
  3. Distribute through social media channels: to draw in your audience, share this particular blog post via social media channels (i.e. Twitter, Facebook, etc.).
  4. Repurpose the message: this is your opportunity to transform your original content into a new podcast, YouTube video, etc.
  5. Repeat: Start the process again from step 1; the benefit of practicing this 5-step process is the way you can simply delegate steps 2 to 5 to your marketing team once your original content is settled.

Lee Werrell's curator insight, June 7, 2014 5:06 AM

Creative Ways Your Business Can Use Instagram

Creative Ways Your Business Can Use Instagram | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it

When Instagram first broke onto the scene in 2010, it was viewed as an app with a whole lot of buzz, but no workable business model. Companies shied away from the new social sharing service, unsure on how to approach and market on a mobile-only, lightweight, photo-sharing app. Four years later and Instagram’s popularity has since exploded with 200 million active users on the platform.

Despite these numbers, user interest in brands and companies is still low, especially compared to Facebook, but that interest is growing, and Instagram has been working hard to make their features more business-friendly. Brand engagement on Instagram is higher than on than any other social media site, with a per follower engagement rate of 4.21% - in comparison, Facebook’s rate is .07%, and Twitter’s is .03%. This kind of cross-platform connectivity also means your followers on Facebook can see and access your Instagram presence.
