Here’s what I recommend: think about your keywords and use them naturally in your blog posts. The keywords that drive a lot of traffic to my blog are phrases like “how to make a profile in LinkedIn” or “social media” and those are the phrases we naturally use in the blog posts that discuss those very topics. You should always prioritize quality content over keywords. For more on SEO for your blog, check out Moz (formally SEOmoz)’s extremely thorough yet simple guide to mastering SEO.

Why Social Media Isn’t Working and What to Do About It

Why Social Media Isn’t Working and What to Do About It | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it
Social media isn’t dead, and it’s no different than any other sales channel – those who care, those who educate, those who provide utility – win.
donhornsby's insight:
(From the article): My last point has to do with money – or perhaps more accurately – revenue. When you follow points one through four, you start to realize that all this focus, storytelling, personality sharing, and conversing turns into something meaningful – a relationship or two. And out of these relationships built on paying attention and being genuine, you can start to recognize ways that you can make a significant impact on someone’s life or business. You’ll identify mutually beneficial opportunities that lead to customers and sales and if you keep at it, repeat sales and referrals. Yes, I’m on record here to tell you that you can sell through social media if you take the time to help people. So you see, social media isn’t dead, and it’s no different than any other sales channel – those who care, those who educate, those who provide utility – win.

7 SEO Mistakes Even SEO Professionals Make

7 SEO Mistakes Even SEO Professionals Make | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it
'There are a few different sides to SEO; there’s a qualitative side to SEO—the quality of your content and the strength of your link profile factor in to how your domain ranks in search engines, but this is a somewhat subjective process.

On the other hand, there’s a quantitative side to SEO—a series of features, setups, and structures your site must exhibit to maximize your chances of getting ranked. There isn’t much room for subjective debate here, and one deviation from the guidelines can cost you, even if only slightly'.

7 SEO Mistakes:

1. Sub-optimal title tags and descriptions
2. Duplicate content
3. ‘Over-optimizing’ keyword usage
4. Focusing on quantity over quality content.
5. Allowing your sitemap to become obsolete
6. Neglecting Google’s diagnostic tools
7. Failing to scale the strategy

Via Antonino Militello
donhornsby's insight:
Preventing and/or fixing these mistakes isn’t going to magically increase your rankings, and these aren’t the only mistakes you have to watch out for. SEO is an enormous, multifaceted strategy, but the more proactive and the more aware you are, the better chance you’ll have at building solid organic search visibility for the long term. As a general rule, you should always be operating under the assumption that you’re doing something wrong—double check your processes and audit your strategies regularly, as no matter how experienced or knowledgeable you are, there’s always room for improvement.

(From The Article): Social or asocial, online we all belong to different tribes. Which one's yours? Whether we agree with it or not, social media does take up a lot of our free time and, to a great extent, dominate the manner in which we communicate with each other online. The most important question to ask in local SEO

The most important question to ask in local SEO | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it
Achieving outstanding local search results for your clients all comes down to one simple -- yet essential -- question. Columnist Greg Gifford explains how getting an authentic detailed answer will set you on the path to success.
Via Brian Yanish - MarketingHits.com
donhornsby's insight:
(From the article): The simple act of asking the question is important as well. Most agencies (or in-house SEOs) automatically start working the same cookie-cutter SEO plan for every client. When you start the relationship with this question and insist on a well-thought-out and detailed answer, clients will notice. You’ll immediately stick out in their mind as the SEO consultant or agency that’s different — the one that truly cares about them and the results you’re providing. You’re setting the expectation that they’ve got to be involved, and they’ve got to invest in the process. When you take this approach, you’ll see that your clients are more dialed in, and they’ll be happier with their results as well.

An Introduction To 360° Video For Social Media Marketers

An Introduction To 360° Video For Social Media Marketers | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it
Virtual reality has been an especially hot topic ever since the Oculus Rift first made headlines, and it looks poised to finally swing into full gear this year. Despite some delays, the ultra-hyped Rift has finally started to make its way into consumer’s hands.

Emerging alongside it are relatively affordable consumer gadgets such as the Samsung Gear VR, which make virtual reality more accessible than ever. It seems the virtual dreams of the 90’s are finally being realized and there’s no doubt the marketing world is paying close attention.

To be clear, this article is not strictly about virtual reality. Instead, we’re going to look at VR’s little brother, 360° video. Despite what some will have you believe, there are important distinctions to be made between the two. Still, they certainly fall into the same category of immersive, just-like-being-there experiences.

Via Brian Yanish - MarketingHits.com
donhornsby's insight:
(From the article): For marketers, 360° video represents yet another opportunity to connect with their audience in a more intimate way. As of now, the area is still relatively unexplored and creative new ideas are waiting to come to fruition. It’s an exciting time to be a marketer! Plus, this is just a first step towards true virtual reality. It’s likely that we’ll start seeing completely VR, interactive marketing as the tech becomes more and more widespread. And I, for one, can’t wait.
