donhornsby's insight:

(From the article): Forming a strong mobile strategy can make or break your efforts to gain the upper hand on the competition. While many brick-and-mortar retailers originally found it hard to adjust to the eCommerce world, those that had overhauled their mobile strategies, such as Nordstrom, Walmart, Gap, and Best Buy, grew an average of 22 percent in the last quarter of 2014. Their current growth rate is even higher than total e-commerce industry growth, proving that no matter what your store size or standard, mobile marketing really does hold the power.

The Complete Beginner's Guide to Social Media Benchmarks

The Complete Beginner's Guide to Social Media Benchmarks | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it

If I were to tell you that a recent tweet of mine received 20 clicks, what would you think?

Maybe 20 clicks sounds like a lot based on what you’ve found for your own accounts. Maybe 20 clicks sounds rather lean, considering what you know about clickthrough rates of big brands or your most successful posts.

Checking out the raw numbers of your social media stats, free of context, makes it quite hard to draw any concrete conclusions.

How to Be Creative AND Brand Compliant in Social Marketing

How to Be Creative AND Brand Compliant in Social Marketing | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it
Maintaining a consistent brand identity with social media marketing is vital for long-term business growth. Learn to flex your creative social muscle within brand guidelines.
donhornsby's insight:

(From the article): Brand voice isn’t limited to the social communications from company accounts. It flows throughout the company’s workforce, and every internal subject expert can influence it. Socially-active internal influencers are likely already aware of brand compliance standards, so they require less upfront training before publishing brand-approved content.

IBM’s Bill Chamberlin notes that any employee social advocacy program should be long-term and sustainable. “With employees being the most trusted sources for customers, it’s vital that your company’s employees are encouraged to participate in advocating for your brand,” Chamberlin added.

Social Media Has Killed Consumer Trust

Social Media Has Killed Consumer Trust | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it
“People trust people, not brand advertising.” For the last few years, marketing analysts and social media marketers have been sharing copious studies and statistics which reiterate that sentiment. They give credit to social media for this new reality and point to the “wisdom of crowds” effect, which references the observation that people tend to believe what the masses say and share on social media, despite personal experiences or empirical evidence to the contrary. If enough people hold this belief, it must be true.

We trust the wisdom of crowds, despite the fact that we neither know the people who rate restaurants on Yelp! nor have personal relationships with many of the social celebrities who boast insane numbers of followers. Similarly, we don’t personally know many of those in our social circles or the online communities we spend so much time in. Yet, we gladly stepped in line, we trusted.

Via Brian Yanish - MarketingHits.com
donhornsby's insight:

(From the article): In June of 2013, I wrote that social media has led business astray. For all its promised benefits including faster, more effective access to larger communities, it has forced many marketers down a path that leads to lower business revenue. I speculated that the bigger online communities and our social circles grew, the less influential those communities would be regarding purchase decisions.+

There’s no denying that consumers are embracing social networking in greater and greater numbers.  And, you cannot deny that social media is a phenomenon that has fundamentally changed the way humans communicate, learn, and live. Yet businesses and marketers may have killed the promise of riches for businesses embracing advocacy or influencer marketing strategies by their very own actions

Why Pinterest Isn’t a Social Network – And That’s OK

Why Pinterest Isn’t a Social Network – And That’s OK | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it
Pinterest a destination rather than a tool.

Via Kelly Lieberman
donhornsby's insight:
(From the article): Why Pinterest Strikes a Nice Balance Between Search, Discovery, and Social

If we REALLY want to be social on Pinterest, we can be. If we want to search for something specific, we can – and smart feed makes it really easy to filter more and more tightly. In fact, Pinterest has replaced Google as my go-to search engine for most personal searches. I would much rather look for “shin splint remedies” on Pinterest. Why? Because I like pictures  In the process I might discover a new blog to follow, some new gear to buy, or new pinners to follow or invite to my group board. My specific search often turns into a wonderland of discovery.

This balance works well for consumers AND marketers, making Pinterest a destination rather than a tool. The more time people spend on Pinterest, the better for businesses in the long run, and Pinterest seems committed to the kind of user experience that will guarantee that. Even promoted pins don’t seem to bother people too much  - AND they work great for getting affordable exposure to your content.
