The 10 Pillars To Creating a Personal Brand in a Digital World

The 10 Pillars To Creating a Personal Brand in a Digital World | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it
For many people their career can be their primary building block that provides major personal meaning and purpose outside of their family. Lose your job and the question is asked, “Who am I?” or “Why do I exist?

Being made redundant at 40 0r 50 can raise many doubts about life and its purpose. Being fired due to bad economic conditions, company failure or a political power play can be life shattering for many.

Should your life be so defined?

It’s as if you handed your life to the boss or the company that hired you. That is a scary place to be and can be avoided.

Building a personal digital brand can be done in parallel to your job and career.

Facebook Post Frequency: How to Find Out What Works - Andrea Vahl | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it

Are you wondering how often to post on your Facebook page? Do you know whether Facebook post frequency or content has a bigger impact on engagement?

donhornsby's insight:

(From the article): You can find a lot of advice out there telling you when you should post on Facebook to get the most visibility and engagement. Instead of taking it at face value and applying it to your page across the board, do some testing to find out if the advice works for your audience.

We’ve shared one way we experimented and compared data using Facebook Insights—we hope it gives you a place to start and an idea of what to look for and measure. It’s important to do your own testing to find out what works for you.

You can see from our data that there’s no magic number of posts per day to get more engagement—in fact, content may play a larger role than post frequency. However, I recommend posting at least once a day so you don’t lose momentum.

Millions of people are available online at any time on social networks and advertising on popular social media websites could prove a profitable idea to draw the traffic and enhance the business prospects. The article discusses the benefits a company can receive from advertising their products through social media. These benefits include advertising to a wider reach, building brand awareness and engaging with consumers on a more person level. Personally i think this is one of the most efficient forms of advertising today as it allows companies to build relationships with their consumers which leads to creating loyal consumers for the future rather than focusing solely on selling a product once.

Why You Need a Social Media Strategy Plan

Why You Need a Social Media Strategy Plan | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it
Social media without a strategy in place can be overwhelming. Here are six steps that can help you thrive and prosper.

Via steve batchelder, Roger Francis
donhornsby's insight:

(From the article) How to do you figure out your strategy? The first thing is to fully understand your ideal client and where they hang out. If you sell mostly to women, Pinterest is a good social media choice. If your customers are more the business type, then LinkedIn is a solid choice. Twitter is also very effective when it comes to reaching prospects in real time. And don’t forget Google +, which is growing in clout due to the massive Google search machine behind it.

Get your ideal client firmly in mind, as this person is the foundation. And after that, it becomes a numbers game.

4 Tools to Grow Your Email List Fast

4 Tools to Grow Your Email List Fast | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it

Do you wonder why you don’t have engaged readers on your blog? Do people come and then leave your website, without letting you know if they would return?

If your web analytics software is showing that you’re attracting more new visitors than returning ones, you might recognize that you have to work harder on engaging with your audience, rather than trying to get more traffic.

Let’s take a look at those two types of visitors. You attract new visitors to your website by using social media tactics and guest posting. “Word of Mouth” is certainly the best traffic generation source that you could desire.

On the other hand, returning visitors usually need a strong reason to come to your website again. Either your blog has already become popular or you have invested efforts into creating a community, the problem of engaging visitors has been solved, and all you have to do now is to continue the good work. In the other case, if you’re struggling with making people returning to your website, you should consider starting to build a healthy list of subscribers.

3 Steps to Strengthen Your Voice for Social Media

3 Steps to Strengthen Your Voice for Social Media | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it

Does your organization have strictly defined or loosely understood brand standards? Regardless, when your brand begins engaging in social media, your voice needs to be strongly defined for the variety and volume of conversation you are now involved in.

Taglines and slogans can go a long way through ads in various spaces, but when you are speaking to and with real people in real-time social media experiences, a tagline just won’t cut it. Strengthen that voice and confidently engage in conversation with these 3 steps.

Via Brian Yanish - MarketingHits.com
donhornsby's insight:

(From the article): For B2B companies, it’s especially important to remember that you can’t just talk. Upholding an incredibly buttoned up and executive voice is a “safe” bet, but it’s exhausting and difficult to connect with your audience. Challenge the temptation to use only pre-approved web copy, and provoke action from your audience. You’ve read it over and over again, but social media enables your company be a group of humans… So be human and hold a conversation.

When you take risks and talk in a personable manner, you’ll see your social media engagement increase in quantity and quality. Step 1 is crucial to finding your medium between professional and relatable, so go back to it if needed and give yourself some breathing room.

ELLO? ELLO? The new social network everyone is talking about. But what does this mean for brands? | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it
You may or may not have heard the buzz about Ello.co, the newest ‘Facebook Killer’ to arrive on the market. They promise a cleaner design, a fresh start and, most of all, they promise to not serve up
donhornsby's insight:

(From the article) But will people stay? The jury is still out on this. The network, itself, is pretty bare-bones right now. Finding and friending people is clunky. You can’t like or comment on other people’s posts. It has a long way to go to meet Facebook’s functionality. Yet, I’m witnessing more and more discussions grow on Ello. There seems to be an appetite either way. It may not be Ello that causes people to abandon Facebook, but there is clearly a discordance. The biggest question that arises is “how will Ello make money if not from our data?”. Aral Balkan, a prominent privacy activist and designer, pointed out right away that Ello has taken venture capital, which means they will have to make money somehow. This raised many eyebrows.

But whether they stay is not the point. The point is that people are hungry for an alternative. So why is that?

Is Content Curation Creating Duplicate Content?

Is Content Curation Creating Duplicate Content? | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it
#content curation is not duplicating content as long as it is focused on content creation and not automation.

It’s important to realize that if you look at content on the web, something like 25 or 30 percent of all of the web’s content is duplicate content. … People will quote a paragraph of a blog and then link to the blog, that sort of thing. So it’s not the case that every single time there’s duplicate content it’s spam, and if we made that assumption the changes that happened as a result would end up probably hurting our search #quality rather than helping our search quality.  – Matt Cutts, Google

Via Brian Yanish - MarketingHits.com, Aki Puustinen
donhornsby's insight:

(From the article): In conclusion, generating high quality content through curation isn’t about automation, aggregation, or duplication of content. If you use the right tools and methodology, you can generate original content with a high frequency that should help you improve organic search results and conversion rates.

STUDY: When is the Best Time to Publish a Blog Post? | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it

After you've written an article you may have the urge to publish it right there on the spot and share your new masterpiece with the world. Should you post it immediately or is there a more optimal time of doing so?

donhornsby's insight:

(From the article): Both studies support the fact that content gets more looks early in the week starting on Monday. The data from Shareaholic shows that posting between 9am to 10am increases the likelihood of both more page views and social shares, while the KISSmetrics study targets 11am EST as the peak traffic time to your blog. Either way publishing on weekday mornings is key, most organizations are likely to put their strongest content out between 8am to 11am. A lot of time and effort goes into creating an awesome blog post so don’t miss the chance to reach out to the full potential of your audience! These statistics mentioned here are a great place to start out but each blog has it’s own unique community, so keep testing to see what publishing schedule work best for you.

Are You Tracking the Right Metrics on Social Media?

Are You Tracking the Right Metrics on Social Media? | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it

Everything worthy of pursuing begins from knowing what you want. At least, it would have been nice if it were that way for business owners and marketers.

Assuming you could nail down on what you want, a few things stick out like a sore thumb. Social media gets you reach, build your brand, seed traffic to your web properties, and helps you build real relationships with people.

Yet, social media – as a medium – is as vague as it can get. It’s easy to get into a “vain mode” and look at things that don’t really make an impact – like follower counts and number of fans. When you do that, you are just feeding your ego and doing nothing for your business as John hall, a contributor for Forbes.com, puts it. John lists out “vanity metrics” like the number of fans or followers, comments, shares, and the like.

It’s another thing if you have a lot of those coming at you (do celebrate) but these are not the numbers you look for, measure, or go home to write mom about.
