4 Overlooked Habits of Highly Effective Content Marketers | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it
This day and age everyone wants to understand how to use content to achieve measurable success. Do you want to be a successful content marketer? Do you want to know the secrets to creating great content?
donhornsby's insight:

(From the article): If you already follow these habits then you’re already one step ahead of the crowd. You’re doing what you need to do to be effective and ensure that the audience you’re creating content for will find it valuable.

That said, don’t worry if you’re just getting started and have yet to build these habits into your day-to-day. Focus on the ones you’re the weakest at first and build that habit into one of your strengths  It may take weeks, it might even take months before you fully embrace these habits and stop making simple content marketing mistakes. The effort will be worth it in the long run and as a result, you and your clients will reap the benefits.

It takes time to be social

It takes time to be social | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it

According to research by the Dachis Group, only 10 – 20% of employees in large organizations are actively engaged with their enterprise social collaboration platforms, as reported in this MIT Sloan article:

It may be that for many employees, even in these early adopter firms working to integrate internal social business applications, using these applications do not offer enough value or reason to shift behavior. Employees may be unaware of the potential of their social platform; or perhaps they have not been properly trained and educated. Or of course, it is also possible that while they are aware and have been trained, the value still isn’t there or isn’t high enough.

The Rise of Social Everything

The Rise of Social Everything | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it

Within five years, I predict, the word social will seem as cliché as synergy feels now. Social connection will be like a dial tone, something we once expected to hear and now don’t bother listening for as we dial. What it represents is just there.

Between now and then, though, we have some growing up to do. We must get comfortable in our social shoes. Overcome personal and professional discomfort with relying on relationships to get work done. And do that publicly, as an intentional mindful function rather than something we’ve always done without notice or acknowledgment.

Is it time for social media education in our schools? The recent Manti Te'o hoax is only the tip of the iceberg. He knew how to use social media, but didn’t understand its power.

There is an urgent need to educate students at all levels on the responsible use of social media. It’s time to help students navigate this unfiltered world of anonymous faces. When searching for a curriculum for social media education.

Teaching students how to set their privacy levels on applications is only the starting line, not the finish line.

The Problem With Our Social Media Addiction

The Problem With Our Social Media Addiction | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it

Earlier this year, a study found that social media is more addicting than alcohol and cigarettes.

Addictions can be dangerous. They can threaten our relationships with others and overall well-being. No one is more addicted to social media right now than the media.

Arianna blogged about this in March, when she wrote that the media's obsession with social media had reached "idol-worshipping proportions."

I'd argue the addiction has only gotten stronger, as journalists live tweeted seemingly every word of the first presidential debate last week, helping set a new record for volume of tweets in the process. Because you know the world needs a thousand journalists tweeting the same line at the same time.

Report: Students On Facebook Study 10 Times Less Than Non-Users

Report: Students On Facebook Study 10 Times Less Than Non-Users | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it

We all know that as students progress through their school years, their homework load increases. Fifteen year olds may look longingly back to when they were ten and had a whole lot less work to do at home. According to the handy infographic below, the average 6-8 year old spends 9 hours per week studying, vs. 14 hours per week for college students. That doesn’t seem so awful, especially when you consider that the average student spends 4.39 hours per day watching television.

Why Twitter makes you feel good

Why Twitter makes you feel good | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it

Researchers at Harvard took the time to dig into our brains to figure out why 40 percent of our daily speech is centered around telling others what we think and feel. And the reason? Because it feels so good!

In a series of experiments, they compared the feeling one gets from eating food, getting money or having sex with the feeling one gets from disclosing information about oneself. The study revealed that the feeling one gets from all of the above is strikingly similar, they all give the same feel-good feeling. This explains why we tweet and update about ourselves so often. It seems that self-disclosure activates the mesolimbic dopaminergic system of the brain, which is associated with the same rewarding feeling as getting money or sex.

===> So Tweeps, now you know what to do when you have the blues: start tweeting and updating your status! <===

5 Tips to Prevent Digital Burnout and Maintain Good Mental Health

5 Tips to Prevent Digital Burnout and Maintain Good Mental Health | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it

The Internet's reach is so pervasive, it feels as though it has always been around. The reality is that the web is still in its infancy, and we don't really understand the risks it poses to our mental health. In fact, various experts, such as Larry D. Rosen, a psychologist and author of "iDisorder," believe that personal gadgets are making us mentally ill and are exacerbating other problems such as narcissism, depression or obsessive-compulsive disorder. Other mental health professionals have already identified disorders ranging from "Facebook depression" to "phantom vibration syndrome."

Realistically, most of us don't have the luxury of disconnecting from the Internet, particularly communication professionals whose work depends more and more on it.

However, there are various things you can do to curtail the negative effects it may have and prevent digital burnout.
