This is a great article to review if you have a page on Facebook. The odds are that you have had some of these questions.

(From the article): If you have more than 200 fans, there are a couple of options. If you’ve never changed your page name before, you should be able to change it one time. But be very intentional with this change–you won’t be able to change it easily after this.

And unfortunately, some people don’t have the option to change their page name even if they haven’t changed it before.

If you have the capability to request a change on your page, you’ll see the Request Change link on your About tab.

How To Write Your Personal Brand Statement

How To Write Your Personal Brand Statement | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it

Before you write blog posts for the masses, before you apply for those positions, before you even set up your LinkedIn profile there is one thing you should do – craft your very own personal brand statement.

donhornsby's insight:

Do you have a personal brand statement? What is it?

(From the article): Stay authentic! When writing a personal brand statement it’s easy to get carried away and putting down what you’d like to be one day. The old “fake it until you make it” approach does carry some merit but don’t overdo it. Never call yourself a guru, ninja, samurai, expert or even thought leader unless you truly are one. Only your audience can determine whether you are an expert and you will know if that is the case. The aim of your statement is to inform and inspire the reader, not to scare them off with fancy titles.

Google is making a giant change this week that could crush millions of small businesses

Google is making a giant change this week that could crush millions of small businesses | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it

"Mobile-geddon is coming. On Tuesday, April 21, Google is making a major update to its mobile search algorithm that will change the order in which websites are ranked when users search for something from their phone or tablet.

donhornsby's insight:

About 60% of online traffic now comes from mobile and Google wants users to have a good experience whenever they click on a mobile link.

The company announced its impending changes back in February, giving webmasters nearly two months and plenty of information to make the changes necessary to keep their sites from disappearing from mobile search results. But the update is still expected to cause a major ranking shake-up. It has even been nicknamed "Mobile-geddon" because of how "apocalyptic" it could be for millions of websites, Itai Sadan, CEO of website building company Duda, told Business Insider.

"I think the people who are at risk are those who don’t know about it," Sadan says. To him, that mostly means small businesses.

How to Use Hashtags to Grow Your Brand on Twitter

How to Use Hashtags to Grow Your Brand on Twitter | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it

#Hashtags – I get it, they can be annoying. Or confusing.

However, using hashtags and learning how to use them effectively is important for building your brand,  growing your targeted followers, and increasing the reach and lifespan of your tweets.

donhornsby's insight:

This is an excellent look at how to use hashtags in an effective manner.

(From the article):

Using hashtags within the content : “@ARCH_Digital helps companies grow their #Brand through #SocialMediaMarketing. Visit archdigitalagency.com to learn more.”  Note that I used the ARCH Twitter username.  In any Tweet, if the company is on Twitter, use their username instead of typing out their company name.  In this tweet, I hashtagged Social Media Marketing and Brand. Those are two commonly searched words within the marketing industry. Also note that when a hashtag has more than one word, I capitalize the first letter of each word. This make the hashtag easy to read in that split second a followers has when scrolling through tweets.

Using hashtags at the end of a tweet:  “@ARCH_Digital helps companies grow their brand through social media marketing. Visit archdigitalagency.com to learn more. #SMM #Marketing”   I included all the hashtags at the end of the tweet. I used the most commonly searched words within marketing and social media marketing, and also hashtags that summarize the tweet.

Using hashtags within the content and at the end of the tweet: The last way to use hashtags, which I recommend, is to use a combination of both methods. “@ARCH_Digital  helps companies grow their brand through #SocialMediaMarketing. Visit archdigitalagency.com to learn more. #SMM”   This is what I would recommend using most often. I’ve hashtagged “Social Media Marketing,” which will help with search but more so help followers to notice what the tweet is about and pause to read it if social media marketing is a topic of interest.  Then, I added

#SMM at the end of the tweet. This is a commonly searched word, and will help grow new followers and increase the reach of the tweet.

Networking with Influencers on Social Media. | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it

One way to keep your content moving is to share relevant posts from influencers in your line of business. Any piece of content coming from an authority on your subject will surely be taken seriously by your followers. The cherry on the cake is when one of your own articles or Social Media posts gets shared by an influencer, as it gets in front of many more eyes immediately.Once this happens, do you know what’s the best way to take it from there? Your response to the influencer’s attention can make it or break it....

Influencers worth connecting with are those who understand the power of being useful to others, no matter how ‘small’ you might be.

Small and midsized businesses: Ignore Facebook at your own peril, according to new research from Gannett digital marketing company G/O Digital.
donhornsby's insight:

The idea that Facebook is no longer effective is simply not true. While it may be plateauing, the evidence that it is still a 'must' in any social media marketing is there.
