4 Ways to Grow a Twitter Following That Matters

4 Ways to Grow a Twitter Following That Matters | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it

Just following and unfollowing is no way to grow and engaged following on Twitter. It just adds a load of spam.

These four tips will help you find real followers interested in what you have to say.

So I’m also here to tell you that it’s not how many followers you have, but how many relevant followers you have. Having 20,000 followers who don’t respond to anything you share is equivalent to shouting from the top of the Empire State Building and claiming all of New York City as your audience.

Yes: more engaged followers are better than fewer engaged followers. So, let’s focus on getting more engaged followers.

Rachael Johnston's curator insight, December 7, 2014 9:14 PM

Many people think that the number of followers you have is what matters, but because it is so easy to get a bunch of fake followers, I believe it is much more effective to have relevant followers.

This article gives the 4 steps to getting more relevant followers.

1. Find and follow relevant people. Don't just follow anybody, find opinion leaders and other users within the industry. First though, make sure your profile is strong. Make it eye catching and informative. Give a short description of your business and make sure to add the address, this is becoming more and more important now that social media is a global thing, this can be a make or break decision factor.

To find relevant people you can utilize other users followers lists. Check who is following your competitors or who your competitors are following. Or find somebody in the industry that is respected.

2. Share interesting content. Don't just push sales on people, share content that will attract the followers you are looking for.  Talk to the users, not at them. try to get them interested in the content you post and looking for more.

3. Engage! This is crucial! Get involved in conversations. You can look up certain hashtags to find relevant conversation you can add to. By posting expert opinions and valuable comments you can attract the attention of others who are involved in the conversation.

4. Promote your twitter account through other channels. Promote your twitter account on your website or other social media platforms. Add clickable links to make it easier for them to navigate to your profile.

When it comes to content marketing, it’s imperative to stay current with SEO best practices to ensure that your content has the best shot of appearing high on search engine results pages. That means getting crazy smart about how search engines view your content, and how they prioritize rankings based on how helpful your content is at answering the question asked in a search.

How should you incorporate the best SEO practices so your content drives users to your site, and ultimately into those precious conversions you’re after? Here’s a best-practice guide to incorporating today’s SEO principles into your content marketing....

Via Jeff Domansky

The Types of Twitter Images Marketers Love the Most

The Types of Twitter Images Marketers Love the Most | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it

The stats don’t lie – if you want to share better tweets, you need to think visually.

Images score your tweets more clicks, favorites, and retweets, so it’s no surprise that 55% of all tweets sent by brands include them.

But just like you get writer’s block when you’re trying to outline your next blog post, you might get creatively blocked when you’re trying to think of an image to attach to a tweet.

Everybody gets a little stuck sometimes. Not sure what kind of visual would go best with your next tweet? One of these classics is sure to do the trick....

Via Jeff Domansky
donhornsby's insight:
Twitter is literally made for sharing soundbite-sized thoughts, making it just about the perfect venue for quotes. They’re super-shareable, which can help you reach tons of new fans in a short period of time, and since they so rarely become outdated, you can put together a list in one sitting and then share them in a trickle over time. Putting your quote of choice on an image makes it more noticeable (and, statistically, more shareable), it gives you the freedom of not adhering to the 140-character rule, and it allows you to add your own commentary. The image doesn’t even have to be particularly bold – all you really need is an attractive typeface, and you’re done.

Get to know your customers, know what they love and what they hate. Try to find out what people are saying about your competitors and from there, create a strategy that would cater to these.

You can rank higher than the competition with the right website optimization.

Improve Your Website with an SEO Audit

You can take your SEO strategy to a new level with the right audit techniques. I agree that by paying attention to this data you can fix errors in your website and be more successful with your visibility online.

Selby provides unique strategies you can use to improve your reach.

Here's what caught my attention:

  • Become a master of Google Analytics. Pay attention to the number of daily visitors, where the traffic is coming from, which pages get the most traffic, and time spent on pages.

  • Include Bing Webmaster Tools in your analytics. Bing offers SEO reports, keyword research, and a link explorer to discover where the competition is getting their backlinks.

  • Make sure your website is secure with an SSL Certificate. This will improve both your reputation and ranking in search.

Don't Invite Your Friends To Like Your Facebook Page  | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it
You’ve created a new business or fan page on Facebook. You have a great logo and cover photo that you worked hard on. Branding is on point. You completed all the “about” sections and your page looks great. However, you have zero likes, and that does not look good. So what do you do? Most people immediately invite their personal Facebook friends to like the page. Don’t do that!

donhornsby's insight:
There use to be a time when inviting your friends to like your Facebook Page was recommended. There might be a time in the future where it will be beneficial. It is absolutely not beneficial today nor has it been for a few years. Here is why it is not and what to do instead… The reason why it’s bad to invite your friends to like your page (especially when your page is new) is because of the Facebook Algorithm. You need to work with the algorithm, and having a page initially comprised of likes from your personal friends is bad for the algorithm for one reason: your friends are not your target audience.
