4 Ways to Grow a Twitter Following That Matters

4 Ways to Grow a Twitter Following That Matters | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it

Just following and unfollowing is no way to grow and engaged following on Twitter. It just adds a load of spam.

These four tips will help you find real followers interested in what you have to say.

So I’m also here to tell you that it’s not how many followers you have, but how many relevant followers you have. Having 20,000 followers who don’t respond to anything you share is equivalent to shouting from the top of the Empire State Building and claiming all of New York City as your audience.

Yes: more engaged followers are better than fewer engaged followers. So, let’s focus on getting more engaged followers.

Rachael Johnston's curator insight, December 7, 2014 9:14 PM

Many people think that the number of followers you have is what matters, but because it is so easy to get a bunch of fake followers, I believe it is much more effective to have relevant followers.

This article gives the 4 steps to getting more relevant followers.

1. Find and follow relevant people. Don't just follow anybody, find opinion leaders and other users within the industry. First though, make sure your profile is strong. Make it eye catching and informative. Give a short description of your business and make sure to add the address, this is becoming more and more important now that social media is a global thing, this can be a make or break decision factor.

To find relevant people you can utilize other users followers lists. Check who is following your competitors or who your competitors are following. Or find somebody in the industry that is respected.

2. Share interesting content. Don't just push sales on people, share content that will attract the followers you are looking for.  Talk to the users, not at them. try to get them interested in the content you post and looking for more.

3. Engage! This is crucial! Get involved in conversations. You can look up certain hashtags to find relevant conversation you can add to. By posting expert opinions and valuable comments you can attract the attention of others who are involved in the conversation.

4. Promote your twitter account through other channels. Promote your twitter account on your website or other social media platforms. Add clickable links to make it easier for them to navigate to your profile.

The Human ROI of Social Media and Online Branding

The Human ROI of Social Media and Online Branding | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it
Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the number of social media networks available online? Here are 3 Keys to Successful Online Social Media Branding.
donhornsby's insight:

As always, Shannon Steffan provides helpful and insightful ways to improve your social media presence.

(From the article): Social media is not a one-size-fits-all approach to business. Social media is the communication between business and customer. Social media networks are synonymous with using a telephone to communicate with clients. There is no ROI of a telephone as there is no true ROI of a social media network tool. The conversion ROI comes from strategically utilizing the tool to convey the brand and business mission, values and beliefs to the customer and opening a dialogue to learn more about the customers and their needs, wants and desires.

5 Reasons Why You Might Need Multiple Twitter Accounts

5 Reasons Why You Might Need Multiple Twitter Accounts | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it
The questions of whether or not to run multiple Twitter accounts tugs at most business owners’ minds at one time or another. Should we have one for customer service and another for product news? A personal account and a business account?

And while the obvious answer to the question is dependent on whether that business has the time and resources to manage multiple Twitter accounts effectively, there are some common scenarios that could warrant a second handle.

Via Brian Yanish - MarketingHits.com
donhornsby's insight:

(From the article): It can be difficult to build a following if you’re tweeting about recipes, motorcycles, video games and cupcakes. Although these might all be your interests, they probably are not shared by the majority of Twitter users out there. By creating a separate account and tweeting more focused topics on each, you will find it easier to build connections.

Social Sharing Habits: New Research Reveals What People Like to Share

Social Sharing Habits: New Research Reveals What People Like to Share | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it
Are you curious about which type of social content gets the most shares?

Are social shares part of how you measure social marketing return on investment (ROI)?

Do you wonder which social channels’ users share most frequently?

In this article you’ll discover the most recent findings about what types of content get shared most, which channels seem to have the most users who share and what posting times result in the most shares.

Via Brian Yanish - MarketingHits.com, John van den Brink
donhornsby's insight:

(From the article): Tailoring your social media strategy using these findings could help you get more shares and spread brand reach.

While nearly all companies stand to benefit from a presence on Facebook, social channels with smaller audiences still offer opportunities.

Businesses with younger audiences have opportunities on Instagram, where a 2015 Pew study found that 53% of all Internet users ages 18 to 29 are active. Half in that age group use Instagram daily.

Marketers in the athletic industry may get more share action on Twitter, which seems to be a gathering place for sports fans.

On Pinterest, retailers have a chance to provide the deals and new products users want to share with their friends. Sharing excellent content raises Pinterest users’ profiles and gives them a way to connect with friends, building their relationships.

Finally, experimenting with posting times could prove a low-cost way to get more shares.
