Marnie Gerrard's insight:

The Australian Curriculum has a booklet here titled "Student Diversity Advice Materials" which gives advice on teaching students with disability, gifted and talented students, and students with English as an additional language. The "instructional adjustments" and "environment adjustments" sections offer practical strategies teachers can use for creating an inclusive classroom.

Veronica Choi's curator insight, April 15, 2013 1:19 AM

It is important for schools and teachers to provide adjustments (curriculum, instructional, environmental) to meet the personalised learning needs of children with disabilities. This is to ensure that students can participate fully in the same learning as the other kids in the class ("on the same basis"). Useful information to address student diversity in the school.

Special schools; why aren't we asking those who know? ABC Ramp Up

Special schools; why aren't we asking those who know? ABC Ramp Up | Creating Inclusive Classrooms - Supporting Students with a Disability | Scoop.it
The debate about special schools is raging on with an obvious omission; the views of current and former students who have experienced this broken system from the inside.
Marnie Gerrard's insight:

Great article about the fact that the student themselves are often left out of the debates surrounding them. As teachers we need to ensure that the student is always included in the discussion and that their interests and needs form the basis of our decisions.
