How Teaching Is Changing: 15 Examples | Supporting Differentiated Instruction | Scoop.it

"It’s tempting to say that no matter how much technology pushes on education, every teacher will always need to know iconic teacher practices like assessment, curriculum design, classroom management, and cognitive coaching.

This may end up being true...Below are 15 tasks that are less skill-based. and a bit more conceptual, collectively representing how teaching is changing."

I suspect that every teacher has seen major change over the last few years. This post provides a look at changes that have happened, or are in the process. The first seven provide the change and a look at the old, the new, the difference and a short summary. One example from the post is quoted below.

Personalization

The Old: Administer assessment, evaluate performance, report performance, then–maybe–make crude adjustments the best you can

The New: Identifying, prioritizing, and evaluating data for each student individually–in real time

The Difference: Precision

When college isn't the answer, some students may benefit from understanding the opportunities of an alternative, vocational education and trade skills.

Higher education issues have been one of the hot topics of the current presidential race, with candidates touching on reducing student loan debt and improving college access. However, what has rarely come up is whether or not college is even the best option for each and every student.

#Education #Technology in the Every #Student Succeeds Act - AAF #BlendedLearning | Supporting Differentiated Instruction | Scoop.it
The reauthorized Elementary and Secondary Education Act, signed into law last week by the president, includes important education technology provisions. The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) represents a significant devolution of power from the federal government to states and school districts while espousing a broader concept of what constitutes academic achievement.  But will the removal of unwanted or unsuccessful tactics mandated by the U.S. Department of Education mean better solutions will replace them? Under the ESSA, educational technology could spark a transformation of teaching and learning for the now empowered states and districts.

5 Tools And Strategies That Support Personalized Learning

Personalized learning is something that many teachers strive for, but it can be easier to want it than make it happen. Personalization is best created at the learning model and curriculum level rather shoe-horned in after the curriculum is done, but when you’re given lemons you play the hand you’re dealt when in Rome, because birds of a feather may not come back unless you set them free.

Schools Use Technology To Customize Learning For Students | Supporting Differentiated Instruction | Scoop.it

Alpharetta-Milton, GA - The Fulton County School Board on Tuesday heard an update on the system's personalized learning initiative.

Personalized learning is the unique way Fulton schools customize instruction so that every student’s educational needs, diverse skills and specific interests are met.

SPLOST, the one-penny sales tax for education, has been the funding source for putting the latest technology in students’ hands.

Using a marketplace model where schools can choose from Apple iPads, Microsoft Surfaces, DellLatitudes and Dell Chromebooks to design their personalized learning technology plans, 23 of Fulton’s nearly 100 schools have rolled out nearly 17,500 devices since August.

Blended Learning in the World Language Classroom #Education

I think it's easy for teachers to hear buzz words like "differentiation" and want to scream. There are so many terms thrown around, and new mandates enforced without much support, professional development or time to implement these ideas. I have often heard teachers say things like, "How in the world is differentiation even possible?!? That is completely unrealistic!" While I can understand that frustration and that feeling of helplessness, I believe a lot of those feelings are coming from the fact that we are trying to fit a square peg into a circle hole, so to speak.
