Putting Supply Chain Back Into the Business: A Nuanced and Critically Important Argument « Spend Matters

Kudos to Lora Cecere, who in the Forbes article Don’t Make Supply Chain a Dirty Word! makes a truly nuanced argument for the need to break down supply chain walls by putting the function into the business between functions. It’s as simple and thought-out an argument as essayists such as Christopher Hitchens or George Orwell were both famous for making on topics of more political and personal importance.

... if you forget to lock the digital back door!

As Tim Garcia pointed out in a recent article over on Manufacturing Business Technology, In Securing Your Supply Chain, Don't Forget To Lock The Back Door, because up to half of all reported company data breaches slip in through unguarded digital back doors. Just because you take all of the security precautions that are possible with your own network, this doesn't mean that you can account for the practices of other companies your enterprise interacts with on a daily basis though digital backdoors that could be contained in every piece of enterprise technology that you use.

Sustainable Supply Chain to Drive Financial and Economic Growth: Middle East Context

Sustainable Supply Chain to Drive Financial and Economic Growth: Middle East Context | Supply Chain | Scoop.it

In recent years, the sustainability industry has evolved to include almost all areas of business processes. Due to the dramatic strides sustainability has made and its holistic nature, it is understandable that the two most apparent areas, the environment and society, would receive much of our attention.  There has been a lack of concern for the area of the economy and alignment with business needs.  Moreover, it has not been used enough as a mechanism to enhance the supply chain or product value.

The Blame Game Surrounding the 2013 Holiday Surge | Supply Chain Matters

The Blame Game Surrounding the 2013 Holiday Surge | Supply Chain Matters | Supply Chain | Scoop.it

On the day before the Christmas holiday, general and social media across the United States nearly all elected to dump on UPS as the Grinch that stole Christmas.

This condition was probably not just a condition at UPS but other package delivery firms as well, including FedEx. Only UPS elected to “man-up” and admit the condition, allowing its workforce to celebrate a well-deserved Christmas holiday with family and friends instead of having to work through the actual holiday to deliver pacakages.

2014: the year we reinvent the concept of savings? - Procurement Leaders Blog

When I read statements like "Procurement are a battle too themselves, over estimating savings and reporting the impossible", or, "Many procurement functions put large savings numbers up in lights when contracts are signed, then clock-off leaving the executive wondering where all the money has gone", I can’t help but agreeing: sometimes procurement’s devotion to savings as a raison d’etre can lead it down a blind alley.
