Did you know that your body requires vitamin D3, a hormone produced by your skin from the sun? Most people in the U.S. are deficient in D3.

Vitamin D3 helps with fractures and falls, immunity, and brain health. In clinical studies the highest levels correlate with lower disease rates. Since most people on the planet only experience sun for a few short months, the best way to get D3 is through supplementation and plant based foods.

Vitamin D3 has been shown in clinical studies to reduce colorectal, breast, ovarian, and lymphoma cancers. This hormone lowers mortality.

In clinical studies there was no benefit for type 2 diabetes and blood pressure as observational studies might have shown. Causation is always needed.

People who are obese need two-three times more vitamin D3. Simple surgery and inflammation can lower vitamin D3 levels.

The recommendation for vitamin D3 is to take between 2,000-4,000 units which correlates to 75 nmolL-100 nmolL This information comes from Dr Michael Greger, www.nutritionfacts.org

Health Tips:  It is recommended to take vitamin D3 and to eat healthy. Mushrooms from the fungi family contain vitamin D2. However mushrooms are medicinal and you may want to consider adding them to your meals.

Sea veggies are rich in vitamin D3. Skip the fish and other animal based foods which cause inflammation.

Find out if you should be taking calcium supplements

Did you know that dairy is the number one source of saturated fat and all types of dairy appear to increase prostate cancer risk? Dairy contains hormone baggage. A meta-analysis of studies involving more than three hundred thousand participants found that overall dairy consumption was associated with significantly increased risk of Parkinson’s disease, states Dr Michael Greger, in his book “How Not to Die”.

Parkinson’s disease risk may increase 17 percent for every daily cup of milk consumed. There is also the very real risk of contamination of milk with neurotoxins. One of these chemical compounds has been found in cheese. Even though the concentrations found were low, there is the concern that they may accumulate over a lifetime.

This information hits close to home for this subscriber. An aunt through marriage, very active woman who worked for a milk company and who always consumed dairy products died from Parkinson’s later in her life. The dairy industry has been asked to require screening of milk for these toxins, but nothing has been done so far.

Researchers have found that people who consume plant based foods are significantly less polluted than omnivores when measuring levels of organochlorines in their blood. And those of you who eat total plant based foods have also been found to have extremely low levels of dioxins in your bodies as well as decreased contamination with PBDEs, the flame retardant chemical pollutant which are linked to neurological problems. And eating healthier also reduces contamination of heavy metals.

Health Tips:  Are you aware that marketing and industry funded studies play heavily in the health messages you read? Taking calcium supplements by themselves is not a good idea. Nearly everyone of you can get enough calcium and boron from consuming a total plant based real whole food regimen, including sea veggies, sprouts, and dark leafy greens.

For those of you deficient in calcium, always team up calcium with vitamin D3. An ionic calcium supplement provides more minerals than capsules do.
