Did you know that your body requires vitamin D3, a hormone produced by your skin from the sun? Most people in the U.S. are deficient in D3. 

 

Vitamin D3 helps with fractures and falls, immunity, and brain health. In clinical studies the highest levels correlate with lower disease rates. Since most people on the planet only experience sun for a few short months, the best way to get D3 is through supplementation and plant based foods.

 

Vitamin D3 has been shown in clinical studies to reduce colorectal, breast, ovarian, and lymphoma cancers. This hormone lowers mortality.

 

In clinical studies there was no benefit for type 2 diabetes and blood pressure as observational studies might have shown. Causation is always needed.

 

People who are obese need two-three times more vitamin D3. Simple surgery and inflammation can lower vitamin D3 levels. 

 

The recommendation for vitamin D3 is to take between 2,000-4,000 units which correlates to 75 nmolL-100 nmolL This information comes from Dr Michael Greger, www.nutritionfacts.org 

 

Health Tips:  It is recommended to take vitamin D3 and to eat healthy. Mushrooms from the fungi family contain vitamin D2. However mushrooms are medicinal and you may want to consider adding them to your meals.

 

Sea veggies are rich in vitamin D3. Skip the fish and other animal based foods which cause inflammation.
