An entry in the Solar Decathlon 2013 competition, Ecohabit is a project of a cross-disciplinary group of sixty Stevens Institute of Technology students with expertise it the areas of engineering, design, computer science, and the technological aspects of business, visual arts, and music.

The Stevens Team states that its mission is to create an innovative home that utilizes green technology to revolutionize renewable energy and sustainable living strategies and practices.

Ecohabit features a smart detection system so that the home can learn from its occupants to optimize energy efficiency. Its climate control systems include a multi-stage heat pump, seven air delivery registers, a dehumidifying ventilator, a condensate misting system, and a dedicated energy recovery ventilator in the bathroom...

It is only through munipical support that this key infrastrucutre will be developed.  However, the use of the grid negates much of the "environmental savings" of EVs.  It is only by going with renewables that EVs will trully become clean.

Solaria, an American solar panel manufacturer, is going to sell a good chunk of its solar panels to China, counter to the much more common scenario of China manufacturing solar panels (and other goods) for the US.

 

Solaria is based in Fremont, California. Its panels, which are of the STS-AZ type, are being used in several large-scale (in the megawatts) solar power plants that are currently under construction in the Qinghai province of China and in Inner Mongolia.

 

Solaria says it is working on the projects for China Guodian Corporation, which is state-owned through its GD Solar subsidiary, and for Huanghe Hydropower, a subsidiary of China Power Investment Corporation.

 

“As China expands its deployment of solar energy, there is a big push toward increasing the efficiency and reliability of large-scale solar power plants,” said Solaria CEO Dan Shugar.  “These projects require high-yield technology and experienced teams. Solaria’s state-of-the-art solar photovoltaic module technology, reliable tracking systems, and expertise in large-scale project development will be of great value as China moves toward renewable power.”

PSE&G Plans To Spend $446M On New Jersey Solar Projects | SunStation | Scoop.it

New Jersey-based Public Service Electric & Gas Co. (PSE&G) has reached an agreement with the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) on a proposal to invest up to $446 million in solar installations throughout the state. Originally, the utility requested to invest over $880 million in solar initiatives.

New Jersey has the second most solar installations in the country.  Let's prove our leadership and progressive to sustainability and do our part for our planet.
