Great Leadership: Why Burnout Should Alarm Executive Leaders

Great Leadership: Why Burnout Should Alarm Executive Leaders | Success Leadership | Scoop.it

Imagine your employees falling asleep in their recliner every night instead of playing with their kids; and how they’re yawning their way through another date night for the 3rd month in a row.

It’s just not healthy.

Moreover, burnout is also showing up in the bottom line of the company and having a shocking impact. Work stress cost businesses $300 billion per year in absenteeism, loss of talented employees, health costs, and programs to reduce stress.

Sounds like someone should do something and fast!

10 unexpected ways to show your staff that you value them | Aspire-CS | Success Leadership | Scoop.it
I often hear from the leaders I work with about what a great team they have. I have no doubt that you may also feel the same about those who report to you. While money is fine, there are lots of other ways that you can show your best people that you value them.

The Layer Cake of Working Life (Ed Batista)

The Layer Cake of Working Life (Ed Batista) | Success Leadership | Scoop.it
In my work with a client in recent weeks, it occurred to me that he was seeking to effect change at several different levels in his professional life, and it was important for us to be clear about which level he was addressing in any given moment. Thinking further along these lines, I realized that we're always working on multiple levels--work life as a layer cake--and a clearer understanding of what each level encompasses

10 Smart Rules for Giving Negative Feedback

10 Smart Rules for Giving Negative Feedback | Success Leadership | Scoop.it

Unfortunately, the nature of business itself and the varying levels of experience and expertise of employees, usually means that not everyone is willing or able to perform as expected, and they will need to be given feedback that to them will be more negative than positive.

How To Tell A Story—Right Now—From A Master Of Improv

How To Tell A Story—Right Now—From A Master Of Improv | Success Leadership | Scoop.it
What we say matters a great deal, but so does what we don’t say. There are times when you just can’t afford to clam up when called upon to contribute.

I love that this article is approaching storytelling skills from the field of improv -- because we receive a couple of good (maybe new) insights.

Many of these are good common sense rules that can often be forgotten. And I just like that even though when you read closely, a lot of this material sounds familiar, the voice from the improv world makes me think about some of these tips in different ways. That is always a good thing!

Your Body Language Speaks for You in Meetings

Your Body Language Speaks for You in Meetings | Success Leadership | Scoop.it

What's more, some research suggests that your body language can even affect your hormones, which affect your decisions and attitudes to risk. In other words, how we say what we say to people is at least as important as what we say to them.
