Learning with 'e's: Recycling Kolb

Learning with 'e's: Recycling Kolb | Stuff on eLearning | Scoop.it

Most learning professionals have heard of David A. Kolb. His experiential learning model (1984) is just one part of his grander theory on learning, and is often cited as a model that encapsulates the entire learning journey. Kolb's model was categorised by Mayes and deFreitas (2004) as an individual constructivist theory, in that it features a number of components that reflect solo learning activities.

Deze passage heb ik ruzie mee: "Social learning processes are showing greater promise than isolated learning, and we now have the tools to capitalise on the human instinct to learn collaboratively and to create, remix and share our own content. Kolb's model is anachronistic, belonging to another time. It is time to develop new models to explain the processes that occur when people learn using socially rich interactive digital media." Dit soort beweringen, met het contrast tussen nu en toen, het woord "anachronisme", die doen bij mij altijd alarmbellen rinkelen. Onze leerprocessen zitten ingemendeld in onze apenbreinen. Elke verandering daar duurt een paar eeuwen--minstens--voordat hij effect heeft. En: ELK model is een procrustesbed. Dat maakt het nog niet onbruikbaar of onjuist.

Flipped Classroom Resources - Google Documents

When it comes down to it, the tag "Flipped Classroom" is really just a catchy phrase covering a wide range of teaching practices. To quote one of the best educators I know (a.k.a. Brian Bennett), "the Flipped Classroom isn't a methodology. It's an ideology." In other words, there isn't a single method that is everything to everyone, or an all-exhaustive list of bullet points that will spoon-feed you everything you need to know. For some, the vagueness of the previous sentences will be frustrating, but trust me, this is a good thing! It means the flipped classroom philosophy is fluid and adaptable. It means that when done the right way, it can positively impact student learning regardless of the subject or classroom.
