Half an Hour: A Few Words on ePortfolios

Half an Hour: A Few Words on ePortfolios | Studying Teaching and Learning | Scoop.it

On the one hand, the portfolio may focus predominately on learning and reflection. Such a portfolio may come to resemble a student's journal or sketchbook.  On the other hand, the portfolio may be used primarily for evaluation and assessment, becoming more a documentation of achievement that a personal workspace. As Barrett notes, the former model focuses on the ePortfolio as process, while the latter contemplates the ePortfolio as product.

flea palmer's curator insight, October 29, 2013 9:32 AM

Interesting post by Stephen Downes about the different functions of e-portfolios. Downes believes that in the future students will need to manage their online learning records and products, while linking to a range of services such as YouTube and Flickr. He links to an interesting project at University of Mary Washington which encourages students to create their own 'web presence' independently from any service providers.

Luis Miguel Claudio's curator insight, October 30, 2013 8:29 AM

Reflexión de Stephen Downes sobre la importancia de los e-portfolios, entendido como proceso y como producto. Concluye con la idea que que en el futuro serán equivalentes a las actuales certificaciones.

Como siempre, muy interesante.

This is clearly defined as e-documentation of learning maintained within a e-portfolio.

How a Radical New Teaching Method Could Unleash a Generation of Geniuses

How a Radical New Teaching Method Could Unleash a Generation of Geniuses | Studying Teaching and Learning | Scoop.it

A new breed of educators, inspired by everything from the Internet to evolutionary psychology, neuroscience, and AI, are inventing radical new ways for children to learn, grow, and thrive. To them, knowledge isn’t a commodity that’s delivered from teacher to student but something that emerges from the students’ own curiosity-fueled exploration.

LinkedIn's New University Pages Help Teens Network Before College

LinkedIn's New University Pages Help Teens Network Before College | Studying Teaching and Learning | Scoop.it

Networking can prove invaluable when it comes to looking for a job, as well as when you’re planning on training for one. The right network can offer suggestions on what courses to take in college, help open doors at the right internships and ultimately help you launch a career in the organization of your dreams.

LinkedIn is now helping you start that process as early as high school with LinkedIn University Pages, a new product launching on the site Monday.

While the pages aren’t designed to be exclusively used by high school students, those students might find their content especially useful. Starting Sept. 13, students in the United States age 14 and up will be able to sign up for LinkedIn, create a profile and interact with University pages.

Lynnette Van Dyke's curator insight, October 12, 2013 7:36 AM

When Technoduet first published its list of MOOC Providers about six months back, there were just 26 names.  Now it has 40 and growing.

Not only number of MOOC providers has multiplied, MOOC themselves have diversified.  We now have SPOC, MOOR  and even a MOOC based on a popular TV series.  The maturity, diversification and popularity of MOOC are all going up.

Tom Hood's curator insight, October 12, 2013 10:37 AM

The speed of learning evolution continues to accelerate as MOOCs (massively open on-line courses) spawn SPOCs (small, private on-line courses) and MOORs (massively open on-line research). Add in social learning, tin can, AICC, and SCORM, we see us quickly moving to just-in-time learning to support the idea of the right talent at the right time with the right skills.

I think we are clearly entering the age of learning as a competitive advantage (for us as individuals and our organizations). in an age of rapid ans accelerating change and complexity, the winners will be those who can keep their L>C, their rate of learning must be greater than the rate of change and greater than their competition.

For learning strategy and resources see www.blionline.org

Alexina's curator insight, October 12, 2013 1:07 PM

What are SPOC and MOOR?  The article mentions their website's list of MOOC providers — now up to 40. See http://www.technoduet.com/a-comprehensive-list-of-mooc-massive-open-online-courses-providers/

Discovering That Your 18-Month-Old Is Using an iPad in Pre-School

Discovering That Your 18-Month-Old Is Using an iPad in Pre-School | Studying Teaching and Learning | Scoop.it
How to react?

On a recent summer day in Nashville, Kara Teising opened her Facebook page for a lunchtime scroll through her timeline when she discovered a photo posted by her son’s daycare: an image of her 18-month-old son surrounded by other toddlers, their chubby faces glued to a brightly colored, animated screen of an iPad. The accompanying post read, “We are taking a BYTE out of our new Apple iPads! We are hungry for learning!” Teising was shocked, unaware that the school, which serves children from six weeks old to pre-K, even had iPads.

Things I Will Not Be Missing In My Paperless Classroom.

Things I Will Not Be Missing In My Paperless Classroom. | Studying Teaching and Learning | Scoop.it

"As I head into the new school year, I'm not scrambling for my old lesson plan book or looking for notes in some long buried folder. All of my work is saved in Evernote and I will be sharing the work with my students on the second day of school. As I was sitting and thinking about all of the things I was going to need to start the year, I was struck by the number of things I will not need now that I'm as paperless as I can get. In no particular order, here are the things I will not miss in the upcoming school year."
