-Amy was raised in poverty. Her mother was overweight and socialy akward

-Amy's personality was flat and self esteem low

-Beth's mother was slim, chic, confidenet and complimented Beth often

Behavioral Genetics--A second look at twin studies

Behavioral Genetics--A second look at twin studies | Study on Twin Traits | Scoop.it
As behavioral genetics enters a second century, the field's oldest research method remains both relevant and controversial.
Emily Lyons's insight:

-This showed 3 ways to test twins

-Random Mating. Twins researches assume pess are equally likely to choose partners alike or not alike

-Then frateral would be more similar thatn they are because they are 50% similar

-Also assumed that equalk enviroments experience the same stimliations

-Research suggest teacher, parents, friends treat identical twins more alike that fraternal twins

-Therefore identical twins behave more alike

-Gene-Enviroment

-Some researches underestimate the inflience of genes on enviroment

-ALso have to pay attention to dominant traits

Personality Differences in Genetically Identical Twins Explained

Personality Differences in Genetically Identical Twins Explained | Study on Twin Traits | Scoop.it
Personality isn't just nature--it's also nurture. Now, researchers have discovered a bit more about how different personalities develop even among identical twins in similar environments.
Emily Lyons's insight:

-This article supports the standpoint of personality being nature

-There was a study done on identical rats

-Both were exposed to the same stimulating enviroment

-However, one rat always seemed to explore more and respond differently to the surroundings

-The rat that explored more, made more neurons and stimulated it's hippocampus

-That rat put itself at a better chance to learn more and therefore creating different personalites

Identical Twin Studies and Evolutionary Psychology | Study on Twin Traits | Scoop.it
Dr Beetle reveals the many flaws assumed in twin studies, particularly as used by evolutionary psychologists. Identical twins learn from each other, or experience the same environments,so become more similar.
Emily Lyons's insight:

-This article shows the imortance not to agree with the genetics rule everything notion

-It said although we do begin learning in the womb

-Sounds smell taste

-However any simliarites between separated twins are due to genetics

-People also tend to treat identical twins more alike because of how they look

JSTOR: BioScience, Vol. 43, No. 7 (Jul. - Aug., 1993), pp. 420-424

Emily Lyons's insight:

-Shows simliarties between both type of twins on alcoholism, depression, and sexuality

-Homosexuality strong influenced by genes

-Out of 71lesbians, 34 identical co-twins were also lesbian

-Only fault is that the sample number is small

-Extremely difficult to study human behavior genetics

-Coraltion between alchololism and twins as well
