This by far was the smartest thing any artist in the music industry has ever done. Mogul, Entrepreneur, and rapper Jay Z sold his album, Magna Carta Holy Grail to samsung in return going platinum before the album was even released. Selling it for $5 dollars a copy, Jay Z made $5 million dollars from the partnership.

Cons: Makes it harder for people to physically purchase the CD cause its more convenient to download it.

Although Jay Z sold 1 million copies before the album release, this is still remarkable. Jay Z had seven solo albums to be in the British top 40. The most recent other than the Holy Grail were, Blueprint 3 which was number 4 in 2009, and his collaboration with Kanye west, Watch the Throne in 2011. In my opinion he deserves the top spot.

Johnathon Coston's insight:
This article goes more in depth about how the album would be distributed. In order to purchase the album before the release, you had to own a Samsung Galaxy S3, Samsung Galaxy S4, or the Note 2 and a specific app that was in the google play store.
Pros: Increased record sales and brought attention more attention to the Samsung company.
This article is more aimed at the way the album was distributed verses the actual content. Kris Ex is basically saying that Jay Z demonstrated little effort in making this album lyrical, because he was for focused on the Samsung deal. I disagree with Kris because people still enjoyed and purchased the album. The Industry is changing, it's no longer about the lyrics but more so about the sound and quality.
