Where will international students go?

Where will international students go? | STUDENTS' AFFAIRS | Scoop.it

Robert Schuwer's curator insight, June 11, 2013 8:50 AM

Forecast about the number of foreign students, in particular coming from China and India. Demand is for education in the English language. US and Australia seem to be the 'market leaders'.

This article starts me thinking about a particluar motivation for universities to be more visible online (especially using MOOC's as a vehicle) and thereby attract more students from abroad (they do not know you otherwise). For Dutch universities, this would mean offering programs completely in English, demanding (near-)native speakers. Will Dutch universities not survive if they are not that present online and thereby do not attract students from abroad? And is this latter statement really true?

For me, educational innovation should be the driver for online programs in the Netherlands. And in this field, the Netherlands have a strong position.
