Excellent example of data analysis

"Based on almost the same logic used in our first post, we took the top 300 universities and compiled the 9 world rankings. Note that, for some universities, we only have 8 rankings. We took this liberty since our goal wasn't to show a list of the top 300 but rather to use this listing to analyze the respective countries to which they belong."

Márcio Carvalho's curator insight, March 29, 2013 7:13 PM

Pierre Levy: “Excelente exemplo de análise de dados”.

Seven major universities to offer online microcredentials

Seven major universities to offer online microcredentials | Strategy & Quality in Higher Education | Scoop.it

"Traditional colleges have been mostly on the sidelines for the early development of online microcredentials or badges -- the kind that aren't linked to conventional courses and the credit hour. Educational technology companies and other alternative providers have taken the lead in working with employers on these skills-based credentials.

A new prototype from a group of seven brand-name universities could change that."

Antonio Figueiredo's insight:

The transcript of Noam Chomsky's Skype interview of February 4, 2014, about the destruction of the university system, the hiring of temporary academics, the so called "shared governance", the alleged need of "flexibility", the purpose of education and how education ought to be, the love of teaching, the use of corporate rhetoric against corporatization, and the need to resist and act.

“Higher education is overpriced, out of touch, and outdated in both curriculum and purpose.” “Historically, the classical university was based on the unity of research and teaching and served the purpose of conveying mostly theoretical knowledge.” (...) We are now “ foreshadowing the next evolutionary stage based on the unity of research, teaching, and societal transformation, with transformation literacy at its core -- that is, literacy in the personal, relational, and systemic foundations of leading profound innovation and change.”
