Why Solving Problems Always Leads to More Problems, and How to Stop the Madness

Why Solving Problems Always Leads to More Problems, and How to Stop the Madness | Strategy and Leadership | Scoop.it
Business leaders are taught to be relentless problem solvers. But that focus traps them in a downward spiral of reactive problem-solving that feels more like a hostage situation than leading. There is a better way.
Chad Manske's insight:
I don't fully buy this author's theory on problem solving as it has lots of holes. First, though solving problems may create new ones, leadership at specific levels are only responsible for the problems at their level. Delegate lower-level problems accordingly. Second, managers don't just solve problems and leaders don't just overcome obstacles as the author indicates. Both do each at their appropriate level at the appropriate time.

Confidence Is Essential When You Really Don't Know What You Are Doing | Strategy and Leadership | Scoop.it
Nobody has ever been as good at something the first time as they become the hundredth time. To start, you simply have to believe you can do it.
Chad Manske's insight:
I talk about this concept at length when I lecture on crisis leadership.  We generally all have a gut instinct honed by repetitive experiences and sharpened by that judgment allowing us to make sound decisions when we otherwise have no good reference points for doing so.  Having the confidence to move forward exercises that skill.
