Using weighted ranking for structured decision making requires the participants in the process to establish what factors make various outcomes better or worse choices. This list of criteria needs to be the same for every potential outcome, so in the case of choosing a new industry for a company to enter, the list of considerations must embrace the reality that the presence of opportunity is not the same thing as being a good fit. After all, no company can compete effectively in every industry

In analyzing data on a competitor, the first thing you have to keep in mind is they are not you. Just because you and your competitor are in the same business, making similar products or delivering the same services, and competing for the same clients, does not mean that they see the world the way you do. Skipping past this is one of the most fundamental mistakes that novices, as well as experienced professionals, can make one attempting to analyze raw data.

An update from LinkedIn this morning indicated that a connection of mine had endorsed me as being skilled in litigation. The person who endorsed me is someone I know only through the Internet. We have never met or spoken, that I can recall. If a lawyer permits an endorsement to remain on the lawyer’s LinkedIn profile that the lawyer knows to be misleading, even if someone else posted the endorsement.Turning to Google in search of an answer, I discovered that smarter people than I had already considered this question. Their answers, however, are not in agreement.
