If you’re an entrepreneur, you’re a salesperson: six tips for success | Strategies for Managing Your Business | Scoop.it
Whilst being a salesperson might come naturally to you, many entrepreneurs find it uncomfortable. After all, salespeople in many circles have a reputation of being untrustworthy, sometimes sleazy and a bit uncouth (all, by the way, very undeserving labels based on the many sales people I have met).
Trumans's insight:

Helping people achieve or get what they need is one of the best things you can do in life and in business.

Coaching employees does not mean you simply tell someone they need to change.

It is a bidirectional conversation and an ongoing process. You must ask, then listen and empathize with them so your advice gets past their defenses.

Just because you are the manager, does not mean your advice is welcome or understood.

Often, the coach must change something in his or her own behavior or viewpoint to be successful at changing someone else.

You are selling a prospect on change. Listen and be prepared to work at showing employees what is in it for them.

Trumans's insight:

As human beings we love a good story, which is why theatre, cinema and TV are so popular. So, how well can you tell the story of your business?  Maybe, it's something to brush up on.
On the other hand, whenever I've visited a new client, gone to have a look at their factory or new office, I enjoy hearing "their story" and they really enjoy telling it. Their business is precious to them , and they've had hurdles to jump to get it to where it is now. So, apart from being a good storyteller, it's important to be a good listener too!

Wow, here is a provocative statement.

Our mercantile minds have become so optimized to derive maximum margins that we tend to forget that it all starts with us, ahem, humans.

But why trust me on this. Just google Steve Jobs and/ or Richard Branson, or a myriad of other thinkers about what they have to say.

In the beginning there are neurons firing in each or our brains deriving a new idea or insight. Everything else comes later. So, value your humans. And, btw, they are not "resources" they are creative agents of change - if allowed to be.

How to Write a Cover Letter: 14 Best Practices for Dramatically Better Job Applications

How to Write a Cover Letter: 14 Best Practices for Dramatically Better Job Applications | Strategies for Managing Your Business | Scoop.it

The cover letter is one of the few documents that nearly everyone will have to write at some point in their life. It has been said that the CV is possibly the most important document you will ever write and if this is the case then arguably, the cover letter could be a close second. The good news is that whilst it might seem complex, in truth it is a just a combination of basic principles that need to be included and followed.

Trumans's insight:

As an Executive Search consultant I would advise every candidate to read this. It's right on the money. One other important point to note: if the application asks for a cover letter and you don't supply one, you have failed the first test.
