Startup & Life Tips From Warren Buffet

Startup & Life Tips From Warren Buffet | Strategic management | Scoop.it

There are reasons other than sheer brillance Warren Buffet has way more money than most. He lives by a strict code and these tips share some of that code. Great #startup and life tips.

My favorites are learning to spend only AFTER saving (hard lesson that one) and the tip about honesty being expensive so don't expect it from "cheap people". I suspect Warren means "cheap" in much more than the monetary sense.

If you own jewelry and have no use for it, you can donate to charity and enjoy a fair market tax deduction. Jewelry donations range from broken gold necklaces and jewelry missing gemstones to very rare and hard to come by fine or estate jewelry. You will receive the absolute maximum tax deduction for your generous jewelry donation. http://www.collectibleswithcauses.org/

The roller bearings may be able to provide some benefits over the ball bearings when they are using them in industrial uses. Because roller bearings with the reduced friction, it could give the company a big savings on their electricity bill.

Disera Doss's curator insight, December 6, 2014 9:40 AM

I have to admit that this is very true. I have worked for both male and female managers and my male manager was rarely seen by the employees. All of the interaction was via phone or email and in my opinion that sort of management technique can make you appear unapproachable.

Love this, "To win in these challenging times, innovation has become your most powerful source of competitive advantage. Playing yesterday's game--even with brilliant strategy--is no match for the hurricane strength winds of creative disruption. Today, an entirely new set of skills and approaches are required to succeed. Simply put: innovation eats strategy for breakfast."

Man doesn't eat by disruption alone. Disruption is disrupting, so balance is always a good idea (not really mentioned in this post). Disruption has to COME FROM some place too. Even those who disrupt innovate on or in some space or meme.

Because the disruption feels from left field to some doesn't mean that is where the idea came from. Most disruptions were sitting on the ground staring up at whoever passed by. SEEING without the hypnotic drug of status quo thinking begins DISRUPTION. SEEING is the key then NOT rejecting the disruption, "Embracing the suck." to quote a movie I saw recently becomes critical because every muscle will cry to crawl back to the safety of the status quo.

Don't do that is our advice :). Do disrupt.

Actually, the Peter Drucker quote is, "Culture eats strategy for breakfast." Of course, innovation is essential. However, innovation is a team sport, and it flows from culture. The key is to establish the kind of culture that will produce a steady stream of innovation.

Marie-Brigitte Souci's curator insight, March 3, 2014 5:44 PM

It seems the more educated we become the harder it is to hold good relationships and it should not be this way. A relationship should be simple, you talk to me and I talk to you, sincerely it is that simple, maybe too simple for some.

We have complicated our ways with endless formulas for every aspect of life. Stop trying to lord over and control people, no one owns anyone, simply appreciate people and respect their boundaries, people do not need to like the sport you engage into nor the places you attend, simply converse without ulterior motives, sarcasm, do not unleash an avalanche of advices if not requested.

Just tell me about you, what you do, your business, the groups you belong to, what you like and dislike, you can take a whole hour to tell me about you and more, but after telling me all of this about you there should NOT be any expectation that I will do what you do nor engage in your activities  and your beliefs, and this does not mean that we cannot be friends, we can meet once in a while to catch up. It is that simple, is this too hard for some to maintain?

This is the biggest key for good relationships >>> DO NOT FORCE PEOPLE TO BECOME LIKE YOU. Control is taboo in any and every relationship, don't people know this?

The reason why relationships fail is a lack of respect, many do not have a choice but to walk or breakaway from individuals and groups.

It is very sad that the most technologically savvy and most civilised and educated generation has so many relationship issues. I hope it changes.

As frustrating as it can be to have people do something different from what you tell them, it can have an even bigger negative effect on your ability to lead. As people realize that what you tell them is not a good predictor of what they really ought to be doing, they stop listening. Then, you have to put in a lot of effort to reestablish trust.
