Human trafficking -- both in terms of labor and sex -- is becoming more prevalent in the suburbs, and legislators and law enforcement officials say they're taking steps to fight it. Elected officials joined suburban police to learn about what more can be done to address the problem. "It (human trafficking) is happening in the suburbs," Rep. Peter Roskam said. "It is happening in ways that should be apparent to us, but we don't even see it."
Here is another disgusting form of abuse. Let's join hands and care about the future lives of our children or anyone caught up in the crimes against the human spirit. IT MUST STOP TODAY! PLEASE, NEVER GIVE UP FIGHTING!!

I love trivia! Do you? And what better subject than BACON! Perhaps all you know about bacon is that it is a meat product prepared from a pig and it goes with just about anything! We will get to some bacony combinations (usual and unusual) later but right now let's take a walk down history lane and when, where, how this succulent meat found its way to the table, especially America's breakfast table.
The story begins in the early 1950's suburbs of Houston, Texas. Mamie is a young child of four who was unwanted, afraid, abused and with nowhere to turn, learned that she had to stand alone. Her only friends were her older brother, an abused child himself, and her nanny, who begged their mother to stop beating them. The father, though he loved his children, remained passive to the end. A victim himself, the only protection he offered was a warning to stay out of their mother's reach.
Mamie, the main character in this story draws you close to her dreams and hopes as she suffers the neglect and abuse from her mother. A young girl who spends her entire life searching . . . no, pleading for her mother’s love and approval, but instead receives only physical, mental, and emotional abuse in return. This unsettling tale is more a story of hope as Mamie’s fighting spirit leaves the reader in awe at the young girl who comes to life on the tear-stained pages."
Today we are going to begin our music history with something different. A connection will be made to the yardbirds in the photo and a group that started recording in 1965 under the name The Yardbirds. How cool when history presents itself in an unexpected manner!

Are you ready for this? Today is...NATIONAL HAIRBALL AWARENESS DAY!
In February, at the beginning of the What's Happenin' posts, a comment was made about not being surprised at the crazy things being celebrated. Today is one of them! Have you ever gotten up in the middle of the night to a wet mushy feeling as something oozy squishes between your toes? If yes, then you have already been initiated, so...
REJECTING Narcissistic Parents or caregivers who display rejecting behavior toward a child will often [purposefully or unconsciously] let a child know, in a variety of ways, that he or she is unwanted.
Rosemary J. Adkins's insight:
This lifestyle is all too common. Mamie shares her story in Reflections of Mamie: A Story of Survival. The story shares abuse, loneliness and hope that begins at age four knowing she had to learn how to stand on her own.
Happy New Year's Day, everyone! It has been nearly a year since the release of my book, Awakenings from Then 'til Now. You might ask "What is Awakenings about?" I would answer "What does it mean to be an American?"
Awakenings allows you to embark on a journey spanning five centuries of America's awakening that identifies who you are and ultimately defines your future. It provides a manner to seek understanding through inspiring quotes from influential men and women in history as well as poetry.
2013 has certainly had its share of ups and downs. But, of course, those are all a part of life. With every touch of happiness often comes a bittersweet sorrow. Even within those times where the tomorrows shed little light, a ray of hope always seems to be found: The promise of better days ahead.
Sunshine is a dear little blond girl whose sole mission in life is to make sad people happy. She lives on a hilltop and interacts in strong and positive ways with characters and situations she encounters on the hillside. Sunshine’s experiences are captured in short picture stories that will appeal to the young reader in the 3-7 year age bracket. A moral is imbedded in every tale that will not be lost on the young reader but will be remembered in context with Sunshine, the character. Most of all, her tales always make children smile!
Sign up for Sunshine's first book and meet her Grandpappy. This photo is a sneak preview of the new Sunshine book also now available. Same sweet little girl but an Irish tale here.
