Over the past few months I have been looking at different ways to use music to engage my students with French and Spanish language learning.

A brilliant post. Interesting suggestions, somme I have already used with success. I have discovered a few great ICT tools to support the  use of music in the classroom.

I have experienced that  using  a musical approach, for example, to teach intonation and pronunciation, beating having the students beat the intonation and stress patterns of words and sentences  on the table  or on their lap  in a chorus is very efficient.

Students get rid of the stress of "doing well and sounding ridiculous, have fun,  and may even get in a  state of " flow". The pronunciation in then assimilated as a breeze.I really like Amara, which can be used to subtitle videos. The only issue is that subtitling a music video is extremely challenging for non-natives and there is a lot of typing involved. An alternative activity would be to use background music and subtitle a short video in the style of old-fashioned silent movies. The choice of background music could reflect the characters’ feelings or the ups and downs of the story.

The Art of Reflection: What you need to do to improve your practice

The Art of Reflection: What you need to do to improve your practice | story based learning | Scoop.it
Reflective Teaching is a habit of mind that requires consciously thinking about how teaching practices impact students’ learning.

Reflection is a tool to self-assess your practice. Once you have collected this information, plan a course of action so that you can implement change.  You might decide to find more research on an area where you need improvement, attend a conference, or read magazines or books related to the topic for which you are seeking information.

Once you begin to implement changes be sure you take the time to reflect once again.

===> Reflection is a continuous cycle that begins once you develop the habit of mind to think about your practice. <===

Picture books in Spanish will often have vocabulary that your child does not know. Even simple books, about familiar topics, will have words and verb forms that are new. That is great! That is how children learn languages. The illustrations, context of the story, and words she does know will clarify the meaning of new vocabulary.
