The Key to Successful Storytelling

The Key to Successful Storytelling | Stories - an experience for your audience - | Scoop.it

Some great advice ....

Luca Brigada's curator insight, March 16, 2013 2:25 PM

"[...]"I used the Mona Lisa metaphor to explain this problem when talking to one producer. It’s a fact that a big percentage of visitors of the Louvre go to the museum to see the famous Leonardo Da Vinci painting and only visit the corridors from the main entrance to the Mona Lisa room and back. But the Louvre has many other corridors and exhibition rooms that are not that popular: they are only seen by a small portion of the museum visitors.

My advice to that producer, at the time, was: focus on your Mona Lisa, the core story, characters and elements of your project, and the “corridors” that lead to that core element. Don’t try to set up the full Louvre with its dozens of rooms and corridors, especially if your resources are limited. Down the line, if you succeed with your initial approach, you will be able to add another room or another corridor. [....]"

Brand storytelling is hardly a new idea. One of the earliest examples is the Wishbook from Sears and Roebuck. In 1895, the Sears Wishbook hit rural Americans mailboxes offering a new concept – a variety store that allowed frontier families to order everything from guns and garments to a Stradivarius violin – for $6.10!

Canon’s Project Imagin8ion with Ron Howard

...Last year, Canon charged legendary film director Ron Howard to create a short film based on photos submitted by Canon users. The goal was to build a story from eight photos chosen for setting, time, character, mood, relationship, goal, obstacle, and the unknown. The result is a moody and moving short film that explores dealing with the death of a parent from childhood to adulthood....

Launch of The Second Screen & Television – Benefits and Impacts White Paper - Trendscape - Industry Intelligence - Canada Media Fund

"The CMF announced the release the 2nd white paper of a three part series on the theme of the second screen. Second Screen and Television – Benefits and Impacts is a co-publication of the Evolumedia Group and the CMF, with financial support from SODEC. The first white paper of this series, Second Screen and Television – Overview and Growth Perspectives, was published in October 2012. A third white paper will be released this spring to complete the series.

The first white paper helped establish a basis for understanding the second screen phenomenon. It explained why the multiscreen context and the rapidly increasing number of people adding multitasking habits to their television consumption rituals (with a portable screen on hand and online while they watch TV) are the source of television industry stakeholder interest in the second screen...."
