Inside the 'world's first augmented reality hotel' Share a room with an Olympian | Stories - an experience for your audience - | Scoop.it
EVER wanted to share a hotel room bed with an Olympic athlete? Head of Innovation at Aurasma, Matt Mills, says the new Holiday Inn Olympic STAY YOU Campaign is “really cool”.

“It’s based on really advanced image recognition… which means you can now just point your phone at something and it comes alive and gives you more information,” he said in a promotional video released by Holiday Inn.

BMX rider Shanaze said the experience of making the short films were totally new to her “but its fun”.

Augmented reality technology is fast becoming an important asset to tourists.

In 2010 Hotels.com became the first online travel agency to use augmented reality to help tourists explore potential destinations.

Transmedia Storytelling: It’s Not Only for Fiction | Social Media Group

Transmedia Storytelling: It’s Not Only for Fiction | Social Media Group | Stories - an experience for your audience - | Scoop.it

What is transmedia storytelling?

Also known as “multiplatform storytelling”, it’s storytelling across multiple platforms and formats using digital technologies. It’s not to be confused with “multimedia”, which is content presented in a combination of different media forms. Transmedia storytelling focuses on the narrative and the experience. Whereas, multimedia, puts emphasis on the technology and the content.

Peel App Takes Next Step in Social TV - social 'actually' integrated with TV shows :) Mashable | Stories - an experience for your audience - | Scoop.it
Here’s how Peel’s new platform works with American Idol. When contestants perform, their photos will pop up above a bar registering positive and negative sentiment (see photo). To the left of that bar will be a button on your screen to “boo,” and to the right a button to “cheer.” You can tap each button as much as you want to during the performance and they will register how many cheers and boos you record during the song’s highs and lows. Then the bar in the middle will reflect the overall sentiment the performer has inspired.

The same set-up will apply to Idol judges as they critique contestant performances. A separate tab shows how everyone stacks up in crowd sentiment. While this is a pretty cool new social advance, it’s just a baby step for the space long-term.

Man films one second of his life every day for a year & will do so for 'the rest of his life'

Man films one second of his life every day for a year & will do so for 'the rest of his life' | Stories - an experience for your audience - | Scoop.it

A Brooklyn-based animator has filmed one second snapshots of his life every day for the past year and edited them to create a six-minute video. Kuriyama, whose Vimeo video is entitled '1 Second Everyday - Age 30', said: 'I spent a couple of years saving enough money to be able to take a frugal year off from work my entire 30th year of life... I spent it doing all the important things I never had enough time for... travel, my own creative projects, and family.'
Soon after starting the project, Mr Kuriyama said he was forced to make changes to his lifestyle to keep the video interesting.

'I realised that I couldn’t even spend a couple of days on the couch without detracting from the whole video. Footage of my typical routine was, frankly, boring.
'The One Second Everyday project has helped me to maintain my creative drive, as I am constantly attempting to capture something noteworthy. It has become a perpetual reminder to wake up and seize the day,' he told the Telegraph.

Story Structures for Transmedia Narratives – Part 2 - Transmedia Digest | Transmedia Digest

One of the biggest challenges of transmedia narratives is developing a story structure that fits a linear narrative into a non-linear transmedia framework. Fragmenting a story across multiple platforms won’t work for most members of the audience (Norrington, 2010). When designing the structure of transmedia narratives, it is important to maintain the things that engage audiences in stories – linked strings of cause and effect, characterization and character motivation, and the dense interweaving of micro- and macro-plots (Abbott, 2005, p. 531).

Korea’s Kiwiple is mixing augmented reality and social networks, with plans to go global

Korea’s Kiwiple is mixing augmented reality and social networks, with plans to go global | Stories - an experience for your audience - | Scoop.it
Through the publicity, Ovjet received a lot of interest and by December last year the app had been downloaded more than 11 million times. Ovjet integrates social media and augmented reality to provide a user with an experience that uses the technology to provide real-time information and communicate with others.

Now available for iOS, the service can loosely be described as a mix between Foursquare, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and location-based dating apps, which are popular in Korea.

While there are several other augmented reality apps on the market which can be used to find the location of restaurants and bars nearby, Ovjet takes the technology a step further by incorporating many other areas that aren’t usually covered.

The app includes a wide range of places, including apartment buildings, parks, pharmacies, bus and subway stops, churches, banks and many more. Tapping the desired location brings up information about it, including phone number, and an address linked to a Google Maps location, while news articles related to the area are also shown.

Social media is about social science not technology - Brian Solis

Social media is about social science not technology - Brian Solis | Stories - an experience for your audience - | Scoop.it

The great myth of social media is that it enables your business to build relationships with customers. Perhaps part of the problem is that the definition of relationships in this social economy is too simplified. Relationships are not a function or derivative of technology. Pursuing the 3F’s of Friends, Fans, and Followers does not directly equate to value. At best, the definition of relationships when technology is at the center of connectivity, can mean nothing more than the way in which two or more concepts, objects, or people are connected, or the state of being connected.

“I’ve been working on this format for awhile, which is why Joe Quesada reached out to me to creatively spearhead the Infinite Comics debut, and I was thrilled for the opportunity to really dig in and show off what the format can do,” says Waid. “It does require some re-thinking on a writer’s part; good comics are always a collaborative effort between everyone involved, but even more so with digital, where artists really need to take the lead on pacing and timing and, as we did here, should probably be credited as co-plotters.”

Transmedia Writer at Work: Joe T Velikovsky in Writer Magazine

Transmedia Writer at Work: Joe T Velikovsky in Writer Magazine | Stories - an experience for your audience - | Scoop.it

One time, it was challenging working on a game project where we were adapting a movie I thought wasn’t very good. It was hard to take the game and its story seriously, passionately, when the film story isn’t all that brilliant. Another challenge is - when several external producers all want to pull the project in a different direction. That can sometimes drive you a little nuts, but when collaboration really works (with a great blend of creatives all working in sync), it’s the greatest rush.

My most memorable Transmedia moment was when I was working on a project with Robert Watts, the producer of the first three Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies. I wrote a screenplay that Robert had optioned and, while we were working on the film, the game and a comic all at once, in the middle of it all we met with George Lucas, who was one of the reasons I wanted to be a writer-director-producer in the first place. Robert put on 2001: A Space Odyssey and was telling us about working with Kubrick (one of my other film heroes).
