Transmedia For the One Percent That Matters? | Antenna

Transmedia For the One Percent That Matters? | Antenna | Stories - an experience for your audience - | Scoop.it

On Friday, conspiracy drama Hunted premiered on Cinemax. The plot of Hunted unfolds in the world of Byzantium, a private security firm which promotes itself by declaring that “we are not for everyone, just for the 1% that matters.” This phrase also plays a key role in Campfire NYC’s elaborate transmedia campaign for Hunted. The phrase evokes associations with the media strategy put forth by Occupy Wall Street—an association that seems anything but accidental. While the Occupy movement uses the 1% metaphor to critique social inequality, the Hunted transmedia campaign finds multiple ways to integrate the metaphor into the system of commercial television.

Veteran transmedia storytellers Campfire previously designed campaigns for programs such as Game of Thrones and Bag of Bones. In those campaigns, as in the current one for Hunted, Campfire relies on a multi-pronged strategy to spread word of mouth about the program and increase brand awareness of the channel on which the program airs. As such, the campaigns combine an interactive web-based component, a physical object sent to opinion leaders, and, in the case of Game of Thrones and Hunted, targeted, local events. All elements of the campaign synch to provide potential viewers with an immersive experience of the program’s characters and storyworld.

The specific elements that comprise the Hunted campaign have been analyzed by multiple media outlets such as ARG Net, Huffington Post, and by Myles McNutt, so I will highlight only a few relevant features. The online component at ByzantiumTests.com consists of personality tests that supposedly decide if the participant is fit to work for Byzantium Security....

Clicking on the real: telling stories and engaging audiences through interactive documentaries. | Stories - an experience for your audience - | Scoop.it

"An interesting thing about contemporary media is just how much of it is factual. From journalism to social media, YouTube to reality TV we are surrounded by media that claims to be true. Often this content has a definite agenda; it wants to persuade us, make us click, join in and pass it on. How can we understand our changing relationship to factual media? And why is documentary scholarship well placed to help us do so? Kate Nash explores new interactive dimensions to documentary that may encourage wider engagement."

"The kids have no imagination!" | Stories - an experience for your audience - | Scoop.it

"The power of the spoken word hasn’t disappeared and it never will. But with the enormous forces applied by hardware, software, advertising and media corporations – to consume, consume and consume some more – kids brains are being rewired. What to? pretty simple – to consume media. Lately becoming a synonym to advertising."

The Indispensable Power of Story

The Indispensable Power of Story | Stories - an experience for your audience - | Scoop.it

"Some people have a way of making the complex clear.  They know who they are, why they do what they do, and where they want to go. Because they have internalized all this, they are able to sharply crystallize ideas and vision. They speak in simple, relatable terms. And they can get a lot accomplished.

Making your words understandable and inspirational isn’t about dumbing them down. Instead, it requires bringing in elements such as anecdote, mnemonic, metaphor, storytelling, and analogy in ways that connect the essence of a message with both logic and emotion. Almost everyone leading or creating has a vision, but the challenge is often expressing it in ways that relate and connect. Quick, think of some former Presidents of the United States and presidential candidates. Which ones are most memorable? Which ones are most likable? Which ones won?  The leaders who stick in your mind are likely the ones who humanize their message and deliver it in ways that connect with everyone at some level, in turn inspiring others to relate to them while better appreciating the mission at hand."

Seeds of Powerful Stories: 30 Powerful Quotes on Failure

Seeds of Powerful Stories: 30 Powerful Quotes on Failure | Stories - an experience for your audience - | Scoop.it

Karen Dietz's curator insight, April 15, 4:31 PM

What is one of the most powerful leadership/business stories you can share? Yep -- stories of failures, mistakes, and disasters.

Yet they rarely get told in our perfectionist society. Oh to admit we screwed up! Yet sharing stories of your failures humanizes you like no other story. On hearing a mistake story, every listener will say to themselves, "Whew, if he/she can admit to screwing up, so can I." or "Wow, it's not fatal if I make a mistake -- and I'll also learn something valuable in the process."

So take heart -- use these quotes to build your confidence and start sharing a few of your failure stories. They are a good shot in the arm. And thank you to author Ekaterina Walter for putting these quotes together to share with us all.
