Keynote Presentation: Margaret Stack Discusses the Tribo-Corrosion Network

Keynote Presentation: Margaret Stack Discusses the Tribo-Corrosion Network | STLE's Annual Meeting | Scoop.it

Click through the title of this post to listen to a recent audio interview with Dr. Margaret Stack, previewing her presentation for #STLE2012.

Presentation Abstract

Tribology can lead to corrosion and also interact with corrosion processes. The possible mechanisms involved and the variables which contribute to the degradation are many. Hence, description of such interactions presents a major challenge for researchers in this area.In recent years, various mapping methodologies have been proposed in an attempt to define tribocorrosion mechanisms. These assign regimes of material behavior based on the tribology and corrosion contributions to the wastage. They also are used to identify synergies between the processes and material wastage levels which can be tolerated for the exposure conditions. In this presentation, tribo-corrosion maps for erosion-corrosion, microabrasion-corrosion and sliding wear-corrosion are discussed. Mathematical models, which have been developed in this area, will be presented. In addition, some typical examples of how such maps can be used to solve important tribo-corrosion scenarios in Industry will be addressed.

New: Vote for the Presentations You Want to See Post-Meeting

New: Vote for the Presentations You Want to See Post-Meeting | STLE's Annual Meeting | Scoop.it

Starting this year, STLE is planning to capture several technical highlights of the Annual Meeting in the form of future webinars/recorded archives. Here’s how it works: STLE will provide an evaluation sheet for you to score each presentation you attend (this has been combined with the traditional attendance card). These sheets will be available in each session, so just pick one up for each session you attend. You can drop them off at any time during the meeting at the Membership booth. After the meeting, STLE will tabulate the results, and the highest scoring presentations will be identified as an Annual Meeting Technical Highlight. Our Headquarters Staff will then contact the authors to present their work in a webinar or other recorded format. So, if you attend a great presentation that you think others would benefit from, identify it so that others have a chance to see it or revisit it after the meeting.

Be sure to pick up a form when you enter each room – even if you’re only watching one talk! Or, you can print off just the sheets you’ll need after outlining which talks you’ll be attending – to save you time and effort when switching between multiple rooms and talks.
