7 Things Teachers Need to Know about The Relation between The Brain and Learning ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

7 Things Teachers Need to Know about The Relation between The Brain and Learning ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | SteveB's Social Learning Scoop | Scoop.it

The core concept behind effective instruction is differentiation and adaptation particularly now that technology and digital media is taking over every facet of our life. Being able and ready to adapt your teaching methods to your students emerging learning needs is the key to a successful teaching career. Adaptation requires  thinking analytically about what goes on when students are engaged in learning. Some get the point so rapidly without the need for exhaustive explanations but others are slow learners and call for longer time.

personalised learning

German Bustos's comment, September 6, 2013 2:43 PM
Is there no need for a common minimum? It looks great the idea of a personal "playlist" of education topics, but if education should not give you something in common with the people you leave with, how can we built a common thing a "res publicas". Which are the boundaries or restriction of a total customized education? Every one will have the same liberty? even little kids? Even poor people? Even people with disabilities who need help to learn?

Take A Look At What Happens Every Single Minute On The Internet

Take A Look At What Happens Every Single Minute On The Internet | SteveB's Social Learning Scoop | Scoop.it
Early last year we learned that one hour of YouTube is uploaded every second. It was a bracing reminder of just how many people are spending their time online simultaneously.

Created by rewards site Qmee, the infographic "Online In 60 Seconds" is a pie chart that shows off the sheer amount of online activity that takes place every single minute. The amount of YouTube videos uploaded has already increased from January 2012's 60 hours per minute to 72. Additionally, over 1.8 million things are liked on Facebook, and 278 thousand bon mots tweeted. Not depicted in the chart: the amount of work that is going undone while all of these items are being viewed.

Donald Clark Plan B: Mayer & Clark – 10 brilliant design rules for e-learning

Donald Clark Plan B: Mayer & Clark – 10 brilliant design rules for e-learning | SteveB's Social Learning Scoop | Scoop.it

Richard Mayer and Ruth Clark are among the foremost researchers in the empirical testing of media and media mix hypotheses in online learning. Their e-Learning and the Science of Instruction (2003) covers seven design principles; multimedia, contiguity, modality, redundancy, coherence, personalisation, and practice opportunities. Clear explanations are given about the risks of ignoring these principles - with support from worked examples and case study challenges. It should be a compulsory text for online learning designers.

Media mix is not mind rich

Their precise studies have confirmed that our media mix (text, graphics, audio, animation, video) in online learning is often flawed, resulting in cognitive overload and dissonance.....
