Google is gaining a foothold in classrooms.  My former employer now has a Google Chrome program in place and used this past summer to educate teachers on their use.  The feedback was good.  I am going to keep in touch with some of my former coworkers and will see how the program pans out over the course of the school year.

David Swaddle's curator insight, August 31, 7:28 PM

This article got me thinking. It's about transitions in user interface design with some very nice animated examples.

Are the transitions shown here useful in a learning context, or are they merely window dressing that detracts from learnability? Personally, I think that while they look nice the first time, most of these transitions become annoying with time, simply delaying users. Mayer and others have shown how eye-candy can often be detrimental to learning.

Is it time for some generous academic to re-evaluate the situation in light of recent UX designs, preferably in a corporate setting? Or, maybe somebody already has and some kind soul could post here and point me in the right direction?

10 must-have IFTTT recipes for social media managers | Battenhall

10 must-have IFTTT recipes for social media managers | Battenhall | SteveB's Social Learning Scoop | Scoop.it

If you haven’t used IFTTT before, it’s like a dashboard of connectors that can make anything hooked up to the web work by itself, using triggers, or ‘ifs’, to power devices, social media and web services. The triggers include Internet of Things devices, time of day, weather, football results or social media pings. The actions include electricity switches, push-alerts, email, and pretty much any web service.

Anyone can create their own ‘recipes’, as IFTTT calls them, and if you are stumped for inspiration, you can browse open, shared recipes that have been created by other IFTTT users. There are over 136,000 of them here.

If you are looking to turbo charge your social media strategy, here are 8 of our favourite IFTTT recipes (with two fun ones for good luck):...
