Primer on content curation for B2B marketers - B2B News Network

Primer on content curation for B2B marketers - B2B News Network | SteveB's Social Learning Scoop | Scoop.it

If you have followed me for a while, you know how much I love curating content. You may even remember my introduction to the topic.

Honestly, I would blog about curation all day. That's why, anytime someone asks me to contribute my thoughts, I can only oblige. :-)

Here is another primer on content curation, this time for B2B companies and marketers. I wrote it for the B2B News Network.

Aside from the usual definition and list of benefits, you will find a series of questions to ask yourself before jumping on the curation bandwagon. I have also included all sorts of useful tips and the names of two must-use tools.

7 Twitter Bio Ideas that Entice Followers (and Make You Unforgettable)

7 Twitter Bio Ideas that Entice Followers (and Make You Unforgettable) | SteveB's Social Learning Scoop | Scoop.it

The Twitter bio is one of the most overlooked features on Twitter (with lists). Many people think that no one looks at it anymore. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

Every time I check a Twitter profile, the first thing I focus on is the bio. If I find it relevant to me, I will have then read some tweets, and peruse lists.

Making a Twitter bio shine is not difficult. Aaron Lee has some great tips for us. My favorite is #4: including the username of your employer.

Web Design What's Next? Flexible Frameworks with Community Like Alejandro Aravena's Architectural Philosophy [TED Talk]

Web Design What's Next? Flexible Frameworks with Community Like Alejandro Aravena's Architectural Philosophy [TED Talk] | SteveB's Social Learning Scoop | Scoop.it

When In Doubt Ask
Alejandro Aravena makes it clear participation isn't easy, but the advantages of including those you server IN the decision process far outweigh the pain. Aravena is asking about housing and public space.

Internet marketers and ecommerce teams need to be asking about changes to their "public space" - their websites. The synthesis between designers and community discussed in this TED talk become a model for web design too with lessons like:

* Don't try to defeat natural forces (Google) incorporate them.

* Build flexible frameworks customers can modify.

* Individual expression happens.

That last bullet my represent the hardest transition for most web designers. We are so used to drawing boxes within boxes we forget those boxes are meant to serve PEOPLE. Hard to forget when those people are included, consulted and actually listened to all along.

Look at what has already happened. We created a web o one way communication that was modified, cloned and spun back to us by the social web as two way community. Why so much resistance to two way community?

Lack of perceived control may be the culprit. Learning to love the friction of Aravena's "synthesis" requires placing ego firmly in back pocket and listening. Who wants to do that?

The future of web design TURNS on our ability to adapt many of the architectural principles Aravena discusses so articulately in this excellent TED Talk. He may be discussing buildings in Chile, but he could be discusses our client http://www.Moon-Audio.com.

The future is about a building a DIFFERENT kind of framework one that encourages a growing number of Ambassadors willing to sacrifice to stamp their impression on YOUR web design.

From Lycos to Ask Jeeves to Facebook: Tracking the 20 most popular web sites every year since 1996 ~ Washington Post | SteveB's Social Learning Scoop | Scoop.it

by Phillip Bump

"We like to think of sites like Google, Facebook and Amazon as immutable — parts of the web as it exists now and has always existed. This is not the case, however. Sixteen years ago, only Amazon (the CEO of which owns The Post) was a popular site; it was the 16th most popular site on the web according to Media Metrix (which later was absorbed into comScore). Infoseek and Hotbot were more popular than Google (which, that December, looked like this) and Facebook (which didn’t exist).

"Sites like AOL and Yahoo did exist — and were popular. But the easiest way to make that point is to share with you this graphic, which shows the 20 most popular sites in December of each year, according to comScore. More interestingly, what it shows is when certain sites became and then stopped being popular."

Effective Keyword Targeting: The Key To Growing Traffic & Revenue

Effective Keyword Targeting: The Key To Growing Traffic & Revenue | SteveB's Social Learning Scoop | Scoop.it

'When it comes to keywords, your aim shouldn’t be to target everything. Rather, you should aim to discover where the richest vein of gold lies, and then focus your efforts on extracting it. By correctly identifying areas of growth potential, you can transform a website into a traffic machine with high revenue potential.

With my e-commerce business clients, I begin by analyzing their market (keywords) and implementing a growth plan in selected areas with high traffic potential. I’ve usually found that most of them can boost traffic and sales with a simple optimization system'.
