Finding a Summer Internship as an MBA student

My Thoughts:

This article implements the idea that getting an internship is extremely important to finding your way in the business field. Where you get an internship depends heavily on where you want to pursue your career, according to this article. This makes a lot of sense because you will be able to get your name in with the business and become known to that corporation. After your internship then, you will be able to get into that business more easily than someone who has never been there - asuming you made a good impression. I also need to be able to hone in on my skills so that I can be efficient when telling employers what I am all about. Catrone says that you need to have the right mentality for getting an internship. It isn't just something that you can mess around at, you actually have to be doing work and benefitting the company, otherwise they will not want you around. You have to make a good first impression, because it's not easy to fix an impression you have already made; that's just the way it works! I believe that I fit the criteria wanted in a MBA Internship: initiative, professionalism, motivation, integrity, communication, strategy, performing, change, and knowledge.

Job Shadow for Your Career | Monster

My Thoughts:

I never thought about how important it is to job shadow someone in the field you are pursuing. Yes I know that you need to gather information on the field but I figured that would be enough, including all of the advice that you get from other people regarding the field. This article, however, shows how important it is to actually job shadow and get the real experience of every day activities. It also suggested doing some research on the actual person you are shadowing as well as the business they work for. This is great advice because then you are able to go into the job shadow with prior knowledge (which gives you some confidence) and you can focus your questions on what really matters - things you could not get anywhere else. Emailing questions beforehand gives both of you an advantage. I learned that and thought it was a great way to get you both on the same page before you go into the job shadowing. That way, the person knows what you are looking to get out of the job shadow and you know more about the job. This article also gives tips on presenting yourself and ways to get off on the right foot, which is helpful to inexperienced people.

City Employment - City of Seattle

My Thoughts:

This is a website I am able to go to in order to find an internship in Seattle. This is the type of website that I can use later to see who is looking to hire interns and who is not when I need to get one. I found out that there are paid and unpaid internships avaliable out there, and I would like to have a paid internship! If I am going to be working full time during my summer break, I want to be getting paid for doing the work. There are also part-time jobs during the rest of the year which I could also do. Here I would be going to school and participating in an internship. I would be able to use this website for part-time internships, but I also need to consider the location of my university.. Regardless, I will keep this website avaliable to me so that I can search for internships when I need one.
