A new article in Nature entitled “Stem cells: Taking a stand against pseudoscience” tells the story of italian stem cell researchers in their fight against the Stamina Foundation and the stem cell treatment it offers. According to the article, Stamina’s founder Davide Vannoni, who has not trained as a scientist or physician, claims that stem cells collected from human bone marrow can be transformed into neural cells by exposure to retinoic acid, and that these transformed cells can help Parkinson’s disease, muscular dystrophy and spinal muscular atrophy patient’s.
